This place was way over priced and their hamburgers and fries were horrible..no taste even with all the toppings I had gotten on my burger, even my moms hamburger and fries were horrible. We ended up throwing the rest of our food out :-( What a disappointment this place was. I would rather go somewhere where the quality of food is way better and either just as much price wise or less like The Habit which is right down the street from here or In N Out. I wouldn't suggest coming here for great hamburger and fries at all.

People need to stop with the comparisons to In-N-Out. That's sacrilege to the highest degree. In-N-Out is renowned for its taste:cost ratio & Five Guys ranks whatever on both accounts, toppings included. For a burger joint that allows customization, go to The Counter. It's only 10 minutes away & while, yeah, it costs more than Five Guys, the taste:cost ratio balances out.

In 'N' Out still wins for me.....sorry.........but the FLAVOR of the burger is quite good at Five Guys. A key attraction to this place, though, is that you can build your own burger toppings......they have some interesting additions (mushrooms being key for me). That part is fun and can add to the overall flavor experience. However, I actually prefer my burgers without the buns, and this place will NOT do it that way......it's a burger on a bun, and that's it. I was disappointed with that aspect. Also, I'm not a fan of their fries.......a lot of other people seem to like them, but I found them to be without flavor. They give a huge portion, so for those who really like fries, this would work. For you ranch-with-fries addicts, they do NOT have ranch dressing. Neither does In "N' Out, but their fries actually taste good, so I don't care.

I'm over Five Guys. For the record, I really wanted to like it. I live about 30 minutes south of their Temecula location, and I gave it a try (see review). Food was decent, but my biggest knock was the price. Total bill at Temecula location: $13.71 for burger, fries and a drink. That's right. $13. For a burger. I honestly thought it couldn't get worse. Then I saw Five Guys Thousand Oaks. And this location is even MORE expensive than the Temecula location. Please take me to In N Out, where I know I'll get an amazing burger (plus fries AND drink) for $5 every time, at every location... always. Five Guys Temecula got 2 stars from me. So the fact that this company's prices aren't consistent, and the fact that their T.O. location is even more expensive... even though I hate giving one star reviews... I gotta do it. One star.

Great food. Always clean is a big thing, habit used to be my number one and now their tables always dirty , and food lost the flavor. 5 guys is my new go to place. :) A+

Seeing Five Guys passing through Thousand Oaks was plenty tempting, as I had a good memory of eating there when I visited Connecticut. Unfortunately, the execution and taste was nowhere even close to my first taste of it on the East Coast... I had a cheeseburger with cajun fries. Burger was small, super gooey, and tasteless. Fries weren't even cooked all the way, and lacked flavor even on that. The result... feeling ill that night and into the next morning. Don't even bother. If you want to compare this to In-N-Out, you are crazy as even the great version of CT I had was quite different. And In-N-Out still wins hands down. Don't waste your money on something of poor quality and execution. It could be just this particular location, so I can't comment on the brand as a whole... but this location just sucks. They also list the calories right on the menu, you can have a good conscious sucking down a 800+ calorie burger with your 300+ calorie fries and 200+ calorie drink. Have fun.

It's a love it or hate it kind of place. I came here on the weekend and the lunch rush was slam packed. There isn't any ambiance to speak of, tile floors, peanut shells, tables that needed to be wiped down badly, glaring lights and a herd of people lined up. Food is cooked to order, priced a bit high for what you get. Personally, I found their burgers ordinary and bland. I can't quite understand the hype. The fries were good. No "service" really. To weather those lines and pay that kind of money, I expected more. In TO, my tops places remain In n Out or The Habit. Better food, ambiance and prices.

I'm a 5 Guys lover! Been eating at them on the East Coast for four years and can't understand why they get low marks. Everything is a little different in Ventura County so I shouldn't be too surprised. Good juicy hamburger with option of like 20 things you can put on your burger for free...where else you get that especially for free? While you're contemplating my question, a tip: the jalapenos are raw not pickled so crunchy fire. I'm not a peanut fan but free peanuts deserves something. Fries are good to split but way to big by myself and pricey for just one, if your splitting them its worth it. The burger is good, juicy as mentioned before and a decent size.

I like Five Guy's Burgers and Fries, but the long lines and cramped/noisy environment were a bit much to bare. I visit locations of Five Guys' when The Habit isn't available. I don't even consider In-n-Out. If you can get here without a line, a get seated with your food easily without those who still wait staring a blackhole in your burger, then by all means stop by because one of their burgers with avocado and tomato is one of the juiciest indulgences western society can offer.

Favorite fast food burger place in the area. Always friendly service here. It does get noisy and I wish they had a little more sound deadening in the ceiling.

I was mildly impressed with Five Guys. Let me first start by saying that I bought into the hype of this place, and made the drive from Santa Monica to T.O. to try it out. I wouldn't call it a wasted trip, as it was a fun drive through the canyons. We got there, and the place was PACKED. Line was wrapped around the restaurant. Parking was hard to come by. We almost didn't find a table to eat at. The burger WAS good. Fries WERE good. My friend got a grilled cheese and wasn't impressed. Would I eat here again? Yes. I did like the food. But the wait and crowds make it less worthwhile. Maybe once they get some more locations.

Anyone who thinks this should even be mentioned in the same sentence as In-N-Out needs to have his or her head examined. Repeatedly. Five Guys is not bad by any means, but it's hardly overwhelming. It's just underwhelming, or uh, whelming at best. The burgers themselves are just average. They're a bit too thin and well-done for my taste and actually kind of reminded me of Johnny Rockets burgers (not in a good way). I did like that they had fresh ingredients and had a wide variety to choose from (I got A-1 sauce on my burger, which was pretty cool). But it hardly knocked my socks off. I wondered aloud if they were offering so many toppings and choices to offset such a bland burger. At In-N-Out, the burger speaks for itself. This one doesn't. I'd also heard much about the fries, namely that "if you don't like the burgers, you'll at least love the fries!" Um...no. The fries were greasy, soft and forgettable. They were barely even "fries." More like soggy potato wedges. Look, it's like this. If you just handed me one of these burgers on the street without telling me anything else, I would thank you for the free burger and not inquire further about where the burger came from and how I could get another. There is nothing special about it whatsoever. All the free peanuts and toppings in the world cannot change that. To be fair, if I were starving and there were nothing else around me to eat, I'd probably walk into Five Guys. But it would probably be to grab some free peanuts for the road.

Well, I bought the 5 guys hype. My brother and I decided to drive the 30 miles to Thousand Oaks (The 405 looked horrible to Carson) to try the infamous 5 guys burgers. The burgers were very tasty- fresh ingredients, lots of options, filling. HOWEVER, they were ALMOST as good as when my brother makes them at home and the bread was.. eh. (When I go out to eat, I want it to taste like I CAN'T make it at home...) I was totally disappointed in the French Fries. We got the regular and the Cajun fries.. and.. we both thought they were average. The Cajun fries just had some of Tony Chachere's Original Creole Seasoning on it. I mean.. really? The thing that turned this place into a hell hole was the kid who was announcing the numbers of the orders. Not only was his mouth molesting and swallowing the microphone, he was SCREAMING in all of our ears. In addition to the pillage of my ear drums, he was annoying. He thought he was hilarious. For example, "NUMBER 91! NUMBER 91! THIS IS NOT AN EMERGENCY! BUT IT IS ONE LESS ONE THAN 9-1-1!" Uh, okay lame-ass... shut up. If I owned this place, I would fire that imbecile pronto. He alone, was reason for us to get the hell out of there. People were rolling their eyes and leaving quickly. This is my opinion: You pay over $6.00 for a bacon cheeseburger and $3.00 for french fries. That is more than some places I know that use PRIME meat. Would I drive there again, out of my way, to just get a burger? Uh, no. Would I eat there if we were passing by and I was hungry, yes. Personally, I prefer In-N-Out. I am giving them 3-stars because they have fresh ingredients, CLEAN and DECENT high chairs acceotable for infants, and the burger was tasty.

They should call this place 15 guys burgers and fries cause that's how many guys it takes to run it. I don't understand the hype though. I tried both the burger and the hot dog and I got nothin. I tried the fries and they were soft and tasted very potatoey, if that makes sense. Too potatoey for me. The hot dog was nothing special. They split it so it didn't have any snap. We need a good hot dog place. The burger was juicy, but I couldn't taste any flavor other than fat. One thing that was kind of weird was that they built the burger with stuff under the patty. Not something I am used to. It all just seemed like I could do better at home, you know what I mean? Other places like the Habit or In-N-Out I cannot duplicate easily, but this place I could. It needs to have a better handle other than overcharging for a burger or hot dog and giving unlimited toppings and too many soggy fries. It's a loud cafeteria like restaurant and you'll probably feel a little like cattle moving through chutes. I'd like the peanuts more if they'd have beer. Finally, they put everything into a paper bag that soaks up the grease, so make sure to get plenty of napkins if you're taking that bag anywhere, like your car. I will say that it was worth a try, but I probably won't go back on my own accord.

I only wish I could give no stars. This place is terrible. Limp greasy fries, and tasteless overpriced burgers. Who thinks this place is good? Try Habit or In-n-out, cuz this place is a joke. That's right I said it!

Stopped by to get a after school snack for my son, never had gone here before unfortunately the closest in N out is in Newbury Park so thought I would try five guys. I ordered a little plain cheeseburger, little fries and a small drink, came to $10.00. I saw the double patty burgers and mentioned to the cashier that I wanted to change it to a double patty burger and was willing to pay the difference, the "head chef" came unglued! He said I have to remake the burger, you have to pay the difference plus tax, I stood there stunned. The 3rd guy that worked behind the counter appeared nervous. I said I have no problem paying the difference, you don't need to remake the burger just throw on another patty (I had already waited several minutes anyway, wanted to make as easy as possible for these guys) I will pay the difference, the "head chef" gave me a scowling look, I couldn't even believe it!!! This to him was something to get this upset about???? Wow no customer service here, dont' walk to in N out, RUN to in N out. The other two workers apologized. I should have apologized to them and told them how sorry I was that they had to work with this human being.

I love this place.. It's the In-n-out burger of the east coast. Great customer service and fresh and high quality food. Warning: large portions are served. Go hungry!

The coolest thing about this place is that they customize every burger by allowing you to add only the toppings that you want, no matter how many you want, at no extra charge. The place was clean. We sat outside, because we had the kids with us. The food came up pretty quick. The food is average at best. We went there because someone told my husband that they have the best spicy fries ever. Well, let me lay it out for you. Their spicy fries are just fries with Cajun flavoring. Noting spicy or special about them. For a burger place, there is no kids menu or kids portions. Everything is ordered a la cart, so that explains the higher than usual bill. I don't think that we would go there again. The food was good, but there wasn't anything that made me want to go back.

I got a bacon burger, fries, and a soda.... $12.15..... wow!!! Tastes like a wendy's burger on steriods. no joke. Not too original of a burger either. I think I could have made the same one at home. Bun is doughy and it disinegrated as time went on. Fries are very average. The ingredients did taste fresh, and the toppings were plentiful. I especially appreciated the thick sliced pickles. Conclusion: there wasnt anything special about this burger, and for $12 it made it an unenjoyable experience. Go to The Habbit or In 'N Out where the food has a better and more original taste at a WAY cheaper price.

Eh. Totally not worth the hype. Ordered for my office today, and out of 9 burgers, 9 burgers were wrong. But the receipts were correct. Can the folks making the food read? Probably not... I guess 9 for 9 counts for something. But not in this case. Mediocre (at best) burger, crappy fries. Tried it, didn't like it. Won't be going back.

2 stars: Meh. I've experienced better Five Guys as a whole is acceptable fast food. This particular location isn't a tremendous Five Guys location. I've been to several Five Guys in several different states, and this particular location is below average; hence the 2 stars. It's kind of disorganized and poorly laid out, there's not enough tables, there's always some kind of hold up in line, and the prices are particularly exorbitant at this location. Yeah it's fun to shell peanuts all over the floor since you can't do it at home. Although I guess you could, but you might see the bottom of your mom's chankla if you tried it. But being a slob doesn't make up for the average food, the high prices, and the hassle of eating here.

I've tried two different Five Guys- the first one was ok, for the pinch we were in, The second one was in T.O. and I might add it was not during a busy time-- I ordered my burger 'very well done' when I got it, it was raw inside , literally- I took it back and ask once a gain for 'well done' they were apologetic, said they always cook their burgers 'well done' and made me a new one-their idea of well done differs dramatically from mine- well done to me is cooked all the way through- wound up throwing away the uncooked part of the redo leaving me with bread and condiments... the fries were mushy and warm at best-- This will be my last visit to a Five Guys-- all the hype about this place in my opinion is just that- Hype....

I gotta be honest. I have a bit of an irrational thing against Five Guys because they're an East Coast chain trying to sholder their way into my beloved In-N-Out's turf. That being said, they're actually quite different from In-N-Out. They're more expensive, but there's more variety on the menu. (Hot dogs with bacon and cheese? Oh man... Why do you DO that to me?) They also have free peanuts in the shell for you to nosh on while you wait. I think, in the end, if there's a Five Guys and an In-N-Out next to eachother, I'm going to In-N-Out (they have shakes after all), but when I'm in the neighborhood where some of my friend's live and there isn't an In-N-Out near by but there is a Five Guys? I go there if I want a burger.

I am really not sure what all the hype is for 5 guys as their food is........ CRAP! Their fries are horrible and their Burgers aren't even as good as a fast food chain. I would choose the Habit or In N Out or even McDonalds over 5 guys any day of the week. 5 guys is just too many guys....... go to the Habit instead!!

Yesterday I was catching up with an old friend and after losing track of the time we found ourselves looking for dinner in Thousand Oaks, on Sunday night at 8 pm. More often than not you'd be hard-pressed to find something other than fast food open at that point. Both of us had been wanting to try Five Guys Burgers and Fries for quite some time and thought this was as good a time as ever to go. I'd heard many things about this chain in the past since I found out a location was opening in T.O., you have all probably heard the same things: burgers comparable to In-N-Out, big servings of fries, and peanuts. Rather than writing my own ridiculous narrative of my first experience at Five Guys, I'd like to attempt to justify this place to people who would otherwise be deterred by other Yelpers' less-than-positive reviews. 1. Cost. Yeah, it's expensive. Ok, so don't go eating there all the time. I still think the quality and taste are more than good enough to warrant an occasional visit, especially when you're looking for a good burger. You'll see that you can choose your burger and just go nuts with free toppings from a list of veggies and condiments that's about as long as Subway's. Could it be that maybe the reason why the food costs a bit more is because customers might order a bacon cheeseburger with (and I quote from Five Guys' website): * Mayo * Relish * Onions * Lettuce * Pickles * Tomatoes * Grilled Onions * Grilled Mushrooms * Ketchup * Mustard * Jalapeno Peppers * Green Peppers * A.1.® Steak Sauce * Bar-B-Q Sauce * Hot Sauce The last five are optional, everything else when ordering would be dubbed "everything." That would be pretty damn generous of them to offer all that on a burger to each consumer for the same price as In-N-Out. Everything is fresh (green peppers on the bacon cheese is a nice touch) so I would assume they're just trying to cover their costs. Duh. I will never be one to turn down free toppings, but if you're a picky eater who will cancel everything on their burger except a slice of cheese, some ketchup, and maybe some pickles... then no wonder you're disappointed with what you got because you just ordered a McDonald's hamburger from Five Guys. 2. The fries are generous, both in serving portions and size of the cut. A bit on the greasy side, but still tasty with the cajun seasoning or plain with some malt vinegar or ketchup. It didn't hurt that last night I was accidentally given a small order of fries even though I only ordered a burger and a drink with the intention of sharing the large fries my friend had ordered. It may not be a good thing for the workers' rep, but I always enjoy it when that happens to me, you could be next! I wonder if they will do well-done fries like In-N-Out does to solve the soggy/soft issue people have. 3. And lastly, the peanuts. I thought it was weird at first but the peanuts are good. And they make for interesting conversation, at least on the first visit. Me and my friend contemplated how we could unload two of the dozens of 50 lb. sacks of peanuts into my car from their resting place in front of the cash registers. "Hey," we could say when we are inevitably detained by employees, "it's all you can eat, right?" Apparently there is a liability issue with the number of people, especially kids with a peanut allergy, so you cannot take peanuts outside the restaurant. Which is fine by me, I'm just glad not to have a peanut allergy. *side note*- someone remarked how filthy the inside of the restaurant was. Unless that yelper can be more specific as to what made the interior less than desirable, then I can only assume he meant the state of the floors. I suppose it is customary to sweep all the peanut shells and skins onto the floor. I myself am OCD about keeping things clean, but I suppose this is their gimmick, not unlike being able to dump a steaming bag of seafood onto the table at Boiling Crab or wherever. So yeah, I think some people are being a little unfair, at least on some of their complaints where it becomes more of a personal preference, rather than an issue that would affect all who visit the restaurant. I am inclined to agree with them that it is expensive and that there has got to be a better way of keeping the place tidy (My heart goes out to that poor worker dude who must perpetually sweep the floor his entire shift). Those of us lucky enough to live in proximity to In-N-Out have been spoiled, especially me, so I am just glad for a worthy competitor like Five Guys to keep me from getting sick of burgers altogether.

To be honest, it is nothing special. They serve everyone as to go orders. Their options for toppings aren't great. I mean who doesn't have avocado?! They don't have ranch for their fries (?!) Oh and American cheese only? We aren't in the south people... I would pay 10 cents extra for cheddar... I would take In-N-Out or the Habit over this place any day...

    (1)
  • Erica G.

Yay for Five Guys! If you're looking for a comparison to In-N-Out, don't try this place because you will be dissapointed. It's more like "Fatburger" or "Fudruckers". That being said, LOVE this place. We first got to try it out in Dallas and was sad not to have one out by us. Menu is short, but the toppings are plentiful. They get those burgers out quick, too.

  • Melissa A.

A-hamazing! probably the best burger I've ever had, you can really taste the quality of their products from the meat to their buns, their fries are pretty good as well. I had the Little Bacon Cheese burger which wasn't so little it was actually quite filling, my boyfriend had a Triple patty cheese burger with the works and ate every bite (I don't know how he does it) we shared a Large and small order of fries plus the 2 extra scoops they throw in the bag needless to say it was more than enough and we took the rest home. My only complaint would be the crappy parking or lack there of. Oh yeah! if you mind bumping elbows with strangers then I recommend you eat outside or along the wall at the counter cause its a family style setting, tables pushed together that seat about 12 people not your average 4-6.

My favorite burgers! although the fries need a little more cooking everytime.

So finally got around to trying out Five Guys and wasn't really impressed. I was thinking the burgers here would be really good based on all the accolades that are posted on the walls. It's your standard ground chuck with all the fixin's - I ended up getting the cheeseburger "all the way." GF ordered the cheese veggie sandwich, also all the way. The cheeseburger was a double patty grilled well done - I prefer a little pink in the middle of my burgers. It lacked serious flavor and reminded me of a cross between a Whopper and any of the burgers from Carl's Jr. In N Out has much better tasting burgers and fries than this place. The cheese veggie sandwich was pretty good but GF prefers the grilled cheese, animal style at In N Out. The only saving grace was the fact the cheese veggie sandwich had grilled (albeit soggy in my opinion) mushrooms. When I opened up my burger, the bun was basically smashed into the burger (they're wrapped in foil). The only good thing about the burgers is that they're decently sized. I'd rather have quality (flavor) than quantity. We also ordered both the Five Guys and Cajun style fries. The Five Guys were plain, salted thick cut fries. The Cajun fries had seasoned salt. The fries were soggy and greazy; they're served in brown paper bags, which soaks up all the grease. The fries weren't cooked properly - they ended up just soaking up the grease. I'd suggest at least soaking the cut potatoes in cold water and then frying them twice to get the crunch. You fry them at a lower temp the first time, let them cool a bit and then fry them again at a higher temp. Just frying them straight off the bat soaks up the grease with very little crunch. On top of that, there are NO shakes at this joint! What kind of a burger place doesn't serve shakes? After eating here, it was too greazy for me. Food coma galore! I'll stick to The Counter, Westside Tavern, Father's Office, Fatburger, In N Out, The Habit, Red Robin, or Islands for burgers. A lot of hype for a mediocre burger. Some buddies of mine are from the east coast and actually prefer In N Out over this place!

Absolutely awful. This is supposed to be better than In-n-Out? Soggy fries and an overcooked burger. They say well done and juicy is how they do it. Um, well done does not equal juicy. Not sure if everyone has grasped that concept. The GM offered us coupons to go back so we gave it another chance and it was just as horrible the second time. H.L. Mencken said that nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public and Five Guys seems to have proven the statement...

After my husband heard so much about it, we decided to go try it. We spent almost $50 dollars for us two and our 3 little ones! After we paid our expectations were pretty high since we had just dropped a pretty penny on burgers. Well... they were only o.k, the burgers were pretty small and sloppy looking when we opened the wrapper. The fries were not very good either, we ordered the cajun fries which were WAY too seasoned and my son ordered regular which were not very good at all. The burgers lacked a certain spice or something in the patty, it seemed a bit bland. It wasn't the worst burger we've had but it certainly wasn't worth the price. Needless to say we won't be back.

  • Nick C.

Too much hype for little substance. Food was a MAJOR disappointment. They claim meat is juicy and well-done. Guess what, can't have it both ways. Well-done means you cook the juices out. Burgers were small and messy, though the add-ons (i.e. lettuce, tomatoes, etc) were fresh. Lots of fries but very soggy (McDonalds still the top dog in this category). Whoever said this food was better than In-N-Out has it all wrong. For $10/person, you will do much better at Carl's, BK and the Habit. Oh did I mention it's fast food (i.e. pay for your meal before your get it). I'd rather go to Islands!!!! If I could give it ZERO stars I would.....Don't waste your money as the food isn't all that good. BTW, I order a regular burger w/Cajun Fries (very spicy)

Awwww, come on West Coast?! Only a 2.5 average for stars at this place?? My fellow yelper Desiree S. gave me background about Five Guys as we worked/studied at coffee bean one day and felt our tummies a rumbling for some lunch. A strong competitor for In n Out, I could see why the California love doesn't come so easy, but fellow yelpers you have to admit that good food is undeniable. The decor is simple just like In n Out with I believe bags of potatoes dividing their dining area and ordering line. Looking at the menu, you'll also be delighted to see the variety of burger accessories you get to choose from to outfit that burger you're about to chow down on! Jalepenos, mushrooms, bbq sauce and more! My friends and I set our sights on the "little bacon cheeseburger", which we weren't sure if we were going to really.. get a little burger, or that was just a cute name they pulled for the slightly smaller size. Totally right about the cute name thing. The "little" cheeseburger was perfect, not ridiculously huge but actually, I'd say just about the size of an In n Out burger! But.. WITH BACON :) We ordered a large cup of cajun fries and they were thick, fresh and the cajun seasoning was the right unique touch for the burger place. Yum Yum!! It is definitely a bit pricier than say, In n Out but I definitely think it's worth a try because of the more differences than similarities of what the burger joint offers. I'll definitely be back! :)

I forget where I read that this burger joint was pretty good so I went for lunch. I will not be going back, the burger was not worth the price the buns were soggy and the onions were non existent. This place is over rated in my opinion. I much rather go across the street to Jack and order a better tasting burger for a wee bit less.

I make no apologies for comparing Five Guys to In N Out. They both serve very similar products and their delivery is about the same. Here's the problem: every thing Five Guys does, In N Out has been and still is doing better in every way imaginable. In N Out has a far superior product and the price is unbeatable. Five Guys is trying to peddle a sub par In N Out wannabe product and charge you 2 to 3 times what In N Out does. Given the choice of In N Out vs. Five Guys, I choose In N Out 10 times out of 10.

Burgers and fries, come on 5 guys. I'm a cali native and I grew up on In N Out so walking into this establishment, it just screams of an In N Out rip off. I'm a vegetarian so meat eaters may have a different take on this, but here's my burger & fry break down from just 1 guy. In n out's veggie burger and grilled cheese are leaps and bounds ahead of 5 guys. the 5 guys veggie burger is on a bun that is not toasted which becomes soggy when ketchup is applied and the toppings just don't match up to the quality and taste of In N Out. The grilled cheese at 5 guys is plain as in boring and is missing something, oh yeah, it's missing In N Out's secret sauce that blends perfectly with every bite. The fries at 5 guys are better than In n out so they have that going for them. I'm glad I checked it out and now it's crossed off my list and I don't think I'll be going back. I'll save my veggie burger and fry splurges to the O.G. in N out, respect due.

Overrated...but we are in the land of In 'N Out, so I'll give them a break. I had heard the hype from east coasters and when one finally came out to CA, I had to try it. The burger was good and there are definitely more options than In 'N Out, but, then again, one of the things I love about InO is the simplicity. I will admit, the fries are better than InO's and I love that you get a whole greasy bag full of 'em. All in all, a decent place, but InO is still my favorite.

Woooweeee, this place is tasty. I am a so cal native so obviously I am a In-N-Out connoisseur, thus, trying a new burger place is almost sacrilegious. I have heard about this In-N-Our 5 Guy rivalry now for maybe a year or 2 and I never thought I would have the opportunity to shun the new burger place but the good men at 5Guys decided it was time to have the burger mecca (So Cal) make the final decision on the king of meat. I have been back to 5 guys about 8 times and In-N-Out only once, does that give you a hint as to what is champ? The juicy burgers and amazing toppings are enough to wake the dead from hunger pains. I always get the Cheese Burger all the way minus pickles and mushrooms and it has not failed me yet. I have tried both regular and cajun fries, to which I prefer the regular dunked in ketchup. Overall this is my new burger haven and as much as I love In-N-Out, there is a new burger champ in town. The line in the Thousand Oaks store, although appears long, does go by very fast. The seating is sometimes a pain to get but all in all, well worth it. I do recommend this place more than any other fast food joint.

Expensive, did I mention this place is expensive? The food was decent but not a show stopper. Why compare this with In n Out? They are two totally different styles for burger joint.

Hey this place isn't ALL that bad...I dont see the hype behind it...obviously the people in the midwest and east coast havn't been to an In&Out. Five Guys has decent burgers...but what I was really looking forward to was the fries...I heard they were just as good as In&Out...well I went and they were fresh (you could see them cutting the potatos in front of you) but they were nothing to write home about. I'd go here again if my friends decide to go...but yeah...it is worth the 3 stars...but no less.

So finally gave this place a shot since its right up the street from my work, needless to say.. I wont be coming back here anytime soon. As soon as you step in, reminds you of a different version of in-n-out instantly, with peanut bags all over. Went to order and the young blond girl there had an attitude as if she was ready to pull the trigger on herself. Horrible service from her by all means. After ordering single burger, small fries and a drink total came up to $11 bucks.. While waiting, you can grab and munch on the peanuts around. Burger... mehhh it was okay.. really nothing special at all.. Fries.. were good.. just insanely greasy.. and you get a bunch of them.. But, I dont see myself coming back here anytime soon.. Im satisfied with all the other burger places around which taste much better..

There is no way is this a burger going to leave a legacy of anything other than hype! The burger was good, but the cheese goes on after cooking and does not melt enough, ends up making the top patty cool. It must ruin the single patty burger. Everything was mediocre at best for a custom burger The fries are not even god, too under-done and firm. For $11+ dollars it is not worth the money. In-n-Out is better executed, tastes better, is more reasonably portioned and you want to pig out you can get a #1 & another DD for about $9. If I wanted a big burger, a six dollar burger from Carl's is a better deal. This place will disappear with a whimper.

We were excited about a new burger place in town and this place looked promising. Super busy, line to the door, tons of great reviews plastered on the walls... great sign, right? I ordered a regular burger with a few toppings and the boyfriend ordered a cheese burger. I'll concede that the burger tasted good, the entire thing combined to make a large mushy meat sandwich. Not really the texture I go for in food. Bun was squooshy and fell apart. And the fries? Could possibly be the worst fries I've had in years. Also, NOT the place to bring anyone with a peanut allergy. Right when you walk through the door there's a large open container of peanuts in the shell for all to snack on and distribute small particles of peanut everywhere. And the fries are fried in peanut oil.

I was in the mood for a big, juicy burger for lunch, and that's what I got. Some are saying it's overrated and overpriced. It's too bad they didn't enjoy it because this is now my favorite fast food burger. The bacon was really crispy, the grilled onions were sweet and just a teensy bit crunchy still. The burger was hot and juicy. So yummy. It ended too quickly, but it hit the spot. The fries not as stupendous but you get a decent amount. The guys behind the counter were super friendly and very cute. I ordered online and it was ready for pickup just as soon as the fries were done. I will be coming back.

I came in with my wife since we heard that this place was "better than In-N-Out"...With both of us being foodies and Double Double snarfers, we had to check out this claim immediately...I really wanted to like this place, I really did...I just felt like being there was like cheating on In-N-Out... If all the claims in the newspapers posted all over this place are correct, Five Guys Burgers and Fries is the best place for burgers anywhere else that doesn't have In-N-Out. It doesn't help that this place is a blatant rip off of In-N-Out...BLATANT...Red and white tile decor gives it away from the moment you walk in... I will say that this place has a few things over In-N-Out... 1.) The place has peanuts...Something to munch on while you wait for your burger. 2.) While waiting, the bussers will actually get you more peanuts and refill your drinks so you don't have to get your lazy butt up. 3.) BACON! Among all the toppings, the only one you have to pay for is bacon...The fact that it's an option make is a nice plus for me... 4.) Lazy fries...What I mean by this is that the fries are cooked in such a way that the if held horizontally, the fries will flex because they are just the right amount of soggy. 5.) Cajun fries...Enough said... The previous five were enough to boost this place from two stars to three... Other than that, the quantity of free toppings does not make up for the QUALITY of free toppings...In the end, Five Guys and Fries is an over glorified lunch BBQ burger with better than average fries... I have yet to try the hot dogs, but I'll save that for another day...In the mean time, unless I have no other choice, I'd rather be spending my money at In-N-Out... :l

Great Place to go as a guest, I think they Valet cars there now too lol. For the money you spend @ 5 Guy's you have too many other choices in the area that are far superior Fact! Side Note: NO Chili or Sauerkraut for their Hot Dogs? Then why even have Hot Dogs on the menú and for almost $4 dollars each....seriously? The Counter, In-N-Out and The Habit burgers all blow this place away. And Islands has the best Fries hands down. Just wait until Garage Dogs opens up this month in 1000 Oaks across the street from 24 Hour Fitness. That will be Hot Dog heaven....from the creators of Fab Famous Hot Dogs in the SFV fame.

We love Five Guys. I just happened into one in Charleston, South Carolina looking for a late night snack. I have been a regular at all their locations in the L.A. area. If you scan the internet, you will learn that over the next 5 years these places will be everywhere (and that is a good thing)

it's cool. Another burger joint, serving burgers, fries, and wieners. The full priced burgers are double patties. I usually put all the fixings on it. You can ask them to put A1 or hot sauce into the ground beef before they cook it, for extra flavor. Regular fries are all you need. you can share with one other person b/c there is a lot of fries. Not a fan of the cajun style. Overall, just ok. Rather go to McDonald's and drop 2.50 on two double cheese burgers.

Just got home from checking this place out with a couple of friends and I can't say it was even worth the 82 mile round trip! Anyway, I tried the regular bacon cheeseburger with everything, fries, and a drink. While they were pretty generous with the fries, the food doesn't justify the $12+tax on a meal. I've had way better burgers for less. While I do like that the variety of toppings they add, when they are all thrown together they don't really stand out. This place is WAY over hyped for being the East Coast's answer to In-N-Out. There has to be better! The burger wasn't bad, but it wasn't special. It didn't have a distinct taste to it to set it apart from the rest. As some other people have said, it is basically Wendy's with a bigger price tag. The Cajun fries are just fries with seasoning similar to the seasoning that can be found in Cup-o-Noodles, but the regular fries were good. My friends on the other hand did not like them so much. Also, $4 for a hot dog is a little over kill. You might as well wait in line for 2 hours at Pinks.

Insanely Soft Buns and Tender Meat. I know sounds like a Porno ad.. but it's true. Tastes like an amazingly good backyard burger. The more I go the more I love this place. Good eats. Beats Habit and In-N-Out in my opinion.

Went here right after it opened and another time a month later to give it another try after some cajoling by a coworker who made us go the first time. After each visit, I felt ill afterwards. The cheese on the burger tasted like that cheap, waxy Kraft singles stuff. The burger was very undercooked and tasted like it had been frozen for a while prior to cooking. The toppings I asked for were grilled onions and mushrooms - the onions were soggy without flavor and the mushrooms were not cooked long enough. The only saving grace had to be the cajun fries. Final complaint is the price, this was upwards $12. I could get practically the same thing at In-n-Out for almost half price and their stuff tastes way better, especially if you ask for the fries well-done.

Very tasty burgers. Although sometimes you get one a little "deconstructed". LOL! While waiting for your order, have some peanuts. Affordable. Service is ok. Could be a little cleaner.

I heard about Five Guys for years and was happy when the In-N-Out of the east coast opened a location close by. The burger was full of flavor and looked more homemade them machine pressed. It was served with a choice of 12 or so toppings. The patty was big and was good, not as good as a double double. The have two type of fries Cajun and regular. the Small was huge.I enjoyed the Cajun better. The large fries would be big enough for a whole family. I would defiantly eat there again.

Five Guys has free peanuts for you to munch on while you wait for your food (or as a cheap side dish) which I thought was pretty neat. I ordered a cheeseburger (which here is really has two patties with cheese). If you want just a single patty with cheese you have to order the "little cheeseburger" (same applies to the other burgers). The burger was a really good size, bigger than In-n-Out's double double. I ordered it with everything on it and it was excellent. It was a very saucy burger which is how I like mine. I highly recommend this place. The pricing was on par with other higher caliber fast food restaurants ($5.xx for my cheeseburger). I didn't eat the fries which they seem to be known for. I will be going back in a few weeks.

This was my first visit to Five Guys. It was busy and too loud inside to consider eating inside the restaurant. My wife and I each got a single patty burger with our choice of toppings and a coke (no fries). I was surprised when the total came to over $15. We choose to eat outside due to the noise inside. We both really enjoyed the burgers. I think it was one of the best burgers I've had. I will most likely go again, just not too often due to the price and noise.

For me definitely better than In -n-out. It's cute inside, all red and really bright white. white with sacks of potatoes piled right by the line. You can eat all the roasted peanuts you want while waiting in line. The line was fairly long but moved relatively quickly and the our order taker was friendly and made sure I didn't order too much food. She asked if we had been before. She let us know that the little burger, cheeseburger, etc. were the burgers with one patty. There is seating out front and a small patio in the back as well. Your choices for burgers are: hamburger cheeseburger bacon burger, and bacon cheeseburger And then with one patty or two. I found that a one patty bacon cheeseburger was plenty and as stated by previous reviewers their burgers are cooked well done. But I must say I found my burger to be well done and juicy, it is possible people. The only complaint I have is that they forgot my roasted jalapeno. My co-hort who ate with me did have them on his burger and he said they were really spicy...will have to try next time. All toppings are free and include: Mayo Relish Onions Lettuce Pickles Tomatoes Grilled Onions Grilled Mushrooms Ketchup Mustard Jalapeno Peppers (available roasted) Green Peppers A-1 Sauce Bar-B-Q Sauce Hot Sauce The first 7 or 8 toppings are automatic. The fries come either plain or cajun. Cajun style having almost like a dry rub sprinkled on them. In my opinion they were delicious, not soggy like in-n-out. The smaller portion is big, couldn't even finish them. As for drinks it's the usual suspects of fountain beverages...you're given your cup and help yourself. I will definitely be back when I'm in town again.

The Cajun Fries are good, I'll give them that. My burger lacked seasoning and the meat was a strange color of white and grey....was it boiled? Grant it they do have a good selection of condiments to add to your burger or hot dog but the taste is in the burger for me and this place didn't cut it for me, I'm sticking with In and Out and The Habit.

Took the whole family to check out this place and was a bit disappointed. Hubby liked his burger, but I wasn't too impressed with mine. Ordered a cheese burger with grilled onions and mushrooms. There was no seasoning to my burger. It was quite bland and had me wishing I had a salt shaker in my purse to give it some flav. The bread was a little weak and didn't do a good job holding all the meat and toppings. My kids got plain hot dogs that were a bit pricey. Fries were okay. Spent $28 bucks on 3 burgers, 1 fries, and 2 plain hot dogs, left wishing I got my money's worth. On the plus side, the place was clean and they have yummy peanuts to snack on while you wait for your order. I'll stick to In-N-Out and Red Robin for my burgers.

i accidentally put $20 in the tip jar. The best thing about my visit here was that a group of guys still wearing their baseball uniforms walked in just as I sat down with my $10+ $20 meal. That's a Five Guys + four more bonus. worth every penny...

Ok, California, Five Guys is not supposed to be In n Out. They're both burger joints, and that's about it. You can't expect In n Out from Five Guys. In my opinion though, Five Guys is a way better burger than In n Out. I went yesterday for the first time since I lived in the Baltimore/DC area where Five Guys got its start, and I'm pleased to say that the California location is just as good! The meat is better than In n Out meat - you get more of it, and it has more flavor. Plus it's not pink inside like an In n Out burger... hello e coli! I like my steaks rare, but ground beef needs to be well-done. Plus they have great toppings, all free, so you can customize your own burger. And the fries blow In n Out out of the water. Five Guys fries are some of the best you can get anywhere! Thick, crispy, with the skin on them, omg so good!! Plus they have malt vinegar to dip them in! Love it! Oh, and another bonus, they have a great selection of fountain drinks: Coke Zero, Cherry Coke, Barq's, and all the normal sodas you'd expect too. A Five Guys burger is basically a simple and delicious burger. I can't wait to go back! The only reason it doesn't get a full five stars is that it's a big expensive for fast food, and it's pretty high in calories, but I guess that's why it's so good!

Man, I thought everyone else was just being picky whiners, but...this wasn't that great ( despite the fact that they have signs all over their interior stating how GREAT they are: almost as if trying hard to convince you: "you might be thinking right now that this burger isn't so great, but LOOK AT HOW MUCH GOOD PRESS WE GET!") Yelpers, I shoulda listened to you! In n out, I'll never cheat on you again! I agree with Yancy: $12 for a small burger, fries, and a coke? The burger was a teeny teeny bit better than in n out but MOST CERTAINLY not enough to merit the price difference!

OVER-RATED. Wow, I can't believe all the hype this place has drummed up. Congrats to their marketing and east coast bias reviews. Here is my Five Guys 10 step handbook for you: 1) "Junior" burger actually means regular burger. 2) Their regular burger is actually a double. The burger tastes good, but where in the world does a burger not taste good? 3) Get lots of napkins because once you take your burger out of the foil, it WILL fall apart at some point. The bun is not stable. 4) Do not fill up on their "free" peanuts, your meal will be huge. Why peanuts anyway?? 5) SHARE an order of fries with someone, even the smaller size comes in a big cup and they put the cup in a bag and fill the bag. 6) Do not get "cajun" fries. They just COVER every inch of your fries in some costco style red seasoning. 7) I asked for some sauce other than ketchup, they pointed me toward their vinegar in a bottle. Thanks. Don't bother asking. 8) Remember those "free" peanuts? Yes, your burger fries and soda just cost you TWELVE (12) DOLLARS. Nix the peanuts and lower prices please. (InNout same meal = 6 bucks) 9) They do have some alternative cool music playing while you eat. 10) They have a nice outdoor seating area. Next time I will order a "junior" burger and share my fries, that way I won't feel ripped off by a $12 meal and won't be as full halfway through cause of their free peanuts. I'll try a different combo of their various toppings as well. When I had this on the east coast, I was amazed and impressed by the "east coast inNout". Out here, I was only disappointed by this cheap imitation, right down to their red and white checkered decor. All 5 guys should have stayed out east.

I read all these amazing reviews online about how awesome these guys were - how they are better than In & Out, etc. etc. etc. So I roped my mom and boyfriend into going to lunch there today. First off for the three of us our lunch cost $22. That's nearly double as much as In & Out would have. The lady at the counter was super friendly and nice. I was intrigued by the amount of toppings offered for the burgers. My bf was upset they only do the burgers well done. I was also not really impressed by the lay out of the restuarant. The inside chairs are super uncomfortable, the outside tables we had a bee bugging us. The free peanuts were a nice touch, but kind of out of place. It was VERY LOUD inside. The staff was using the microphone to call order #'s to the outside and it was squeaking horribly! The decor leaves a little to be desired as well. I just kind of think it's funny when a place has to constantly tell you how amazing they are, and how great everyone says they are all over the dining area. It should have been my first clue... Well, we got our food in a to go bag, which is a little annoying. Our burgers were super messy. The topping proportions were not enough. Mom said if she had known she would have order double mushrooms. The boyfriend said the jalapenos were raw and not spicy, the onions ruined the burger because the taste was off. Our patties were small and took up only about half the bun, they were dry and tasteless. I didn't care for the fries at all. The cup of fries was pretty much empty, with all of them being rolled at the bottom of the bag. I felt they were overdone and just not tasty in general. When we left I was disappointed. I would have rather gone to the Jack in the Box across the street. Needless to say I won't be going back and I suggest you skip them all together. I don't see a future for these guys in southern California who is used to the high quality, decent prices and delicious food In & Out has been giving us for years.

I really wanted to try this burger place because it had decent reviews in Yelp, and the name was interesting. Not to mention it is right by the place where I take my son to karate. I am not big on burgers, but I was curious about this place anyway. To summarize; this place is an east cost franchise that is trying to do something similar to In-n-Out. The menu is very simple, however it allows unique burger creations by letting you choose from a variety of sauces and ingredients free of charge. The burgers are fine for the price, and the fries are OK. The ambiance will get very high grades from me since as I was walking in they were playing Enter Sandman from Metallica, and then Living on a prayer from Bon Jovi. I truly enjoyed eating a big juicy burger listening to music I adored decades ago! This place has free peanuts to munch on while you are waiting for your burger, like some bars have. Ok, final words on the In-n-Out comparison. Five guys beats In-n-Out on the burger taste, ingredient variety, ambiance, free peanuts, etc. In-n-Out beats Five guys on fries.

Question: What do you get when you take In-N-Out and double its prices, double its trendiness, double the amount of hipsters and douchebags hanging out there and litter the floors with a layer of peanut shells? Answer: Five Guys. I'd choose In-N-Out over Five Guys every time. The burger was greasy and bland. So were the fries and on top of that, they were served way too hot and were cut too thick which made them soggy. In fact, the fries were so greasy that they saturated nearly the entire bag in grease even before I got up to the counter and got it. By the time I finished the meal, the grease in the bag made it almost transparent. I'm not the most healthiest person but it did make me sick to my stomach the rest of the day.

This isn't IN-N-Out. They try so hard their restaurant colors are even white and red! No palm trees though. When I walked in I was little confused and had to take a minute to soak it all in. First thought, what do I order and how? There is so much to choose from! I ordered a small burger which is actually the size of a regular hamburger, scanned the menu for fries and ordered those too and drink . The fries come in huge and extra huge sizes, ok well maybe they call it small and large but they are pretty big. Too big for one person even the small. The cashier didn't tell me about the cajun fry option, I might have wanted to try them... Ah well. So this hamburger, great! Lots of toppings to choose from mushrooms, jalapenos, onions (and some others) and then regular stuff. I enjoyed the hamburger nice bun and good size. So back to the fries, so yes they think they are like THE West Coast burger but sorry nope, the fries are a miss. Very greasy (Okay I know they are fries but this is excessive, my brown paper bag was see through after 5mins) and were a bit odd flavored perhaps because they were cooked in peanut oil? So the last thing, the price, for the smaller burger, small fries and a small drink was almost $10, thats too much for this. I think I will stick to IN-N-Out. Sorry Five Guys, fix your fries and I might be back. And a thought, I saw they had hot dogs and few other odd items on their menu too...so maybe a little for everyone including a veggie burger.

Best gourmet burger around! Always cooked perfectly and the taste is great. I consider In n Out the best fast food burger and this is the best tasting sit down burger. If you order fries the small size is more than plenty to go around. My new favorite burger place in town. No pictures will do this burger justice you just need to taste it.

  • Benedict Y.

The burger gets lost in all the condiments. $12 gets you a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink. To much hoopla and not enough substance. I do not see how this place claims to be In N Out's competitor. In N Out wins in a landslide.

  • Greg S.

I wanted to like this place, I really did. I have some friends back east that claim this is the best burger so when they opened up here I was very excited. I ate there 4 times before finally giving up. The food is extremely over priced, the burgers are dry and over done, the buns are soggy and fall apart, the fries are ok but the cajun is way overrated. I wanted to like this place, but I'll be sticking with The Habit, Fatburger, and In n Out from now on.

Good things: -Fancy soda machines -Free peanuts -Good burgers -No horribly long lines (Unlike In N' Out) Mediocre things: -When staff calls out orders they should be talking loud; not whispering. Other than that they are fine. -Decor Bad things None! Tip: Regular burger is 2x size of burger at In N Out. Recommend you get the mini if you're not absolutely starving.

Just finished up a cheat dinner here at Five Guys in Thousand Oaks. I ordered a hamburger with all the works and a side of Cajun fries. First thing is first, a establishment will always get a plus when they have the huge vending machine with over 100+ flavors. Side: the Cajun style Fries were quite good. I was surprised. I always try to portion control even when eating bad. I caught myself inhaling one by one until it was all gone. Burger: the burger came with two patties which is good for the price. Unfortunately, that's really the only positive. The meat isn't well seasoned and the grilled onions and mushrooms need some seasoning help as well. The overall flavor of the entire burger leaves you feeling like something is missing. Overall, I think the food was just alright. I wouldn't choose to go here but If ask to go, I would not refuse. The meal is priced well and the fries were good. Final verdict is 3 out of 5.

Just can't warm up to Five Guys. Service was fine and our burger came out quickly but it was horrible. My son had a sad, soggy, wrinkly bacon burger, overpriced and greasy. We shared an order of fries, a huge portion for the price, clearly a better value than the burger, but just salty and not worth the fat or calories. Descent location, clean and well kept, no veggie burger option for me, boo. No need to come back.

I've been here many times - and it gets 3 stars because it's not as great as they claim. The fries are good with sizable orders - but the prices are not exactly cheap. The 3 star limit is because they serve so few items compared to some competitors - and they're not impressing me with their food fare. The free peanuts do not make up for a lack of strength in other areas of enterprise. Service has always been good. So - if you wanna question why I justify giving only 3 stars - judge by their lunch or dinner crowds. The're never really crushingly busy.

I have never been here before but have read the reviews over the years since they came here. I don't know why there are so many complaints. I got the single patty bacon burger with lettuce tomato raw onions grilled mushrooms mustard mayo and ketchup and pickles. Unlimited toppings is quite a thing, considering the variety offered here, plus how other places are restrictive or gouge you for extras. The burger was juicy and fantastic. All the toppings were flavorful and distinct. The fries were their own personality, skin on. Slightly limp but tasty. The staff was friendly, efficient and I recommend this location and will go back.

5 stars for Five Guys! Their bacon cheese burger is amazing with unlimited toppings. And those fries....yum yum yum! Million times better than In-N-Out. I will definitely be back soon! Tip: Don't fill yourself up with the free peanuts!!!

This is an above average fast food joint that's not worth the price. A burger, fries, and drink will set you back a solid $14, and that's just not okay. I appreciate that it was tasty--definitely a step up (or two steps up) from Carl's Jr., Burger King, or McDonalds--but if you have a specialty burger joint in the area, I would recommend going there before this place. Here's the thing: the beef patty is juicier and is actually real food compared to the burgers at your typical fast food place. Another thing that sets them apart is that they give you interesting options for toppings. For example, I got jalapenos, grilled onions, and bell pepper on my burger. Also the fries were actually pretty good. They actually seemed like real potatoes and had the right amount of crispiness to them. They also give you peanuts (with shells) to hold you over while you wait. When I went here, we had just done an hour long hike at Griffith Park, and I was very hungry. So I appreciated the free peanuts. The fact that you actually have to break open the shell to get at them makes it seem less unhealthy. The truth is that the peanuts probably aren't doing you any favors when you taken them together with your massive burger, fries, and soda meal. But you don't get Five Guys because you're in the mood to eat healthy, do you? To summarize: quality burger and fries, but overpriced.

I first experienced Five Guys in Simi Valley. It was pretty good. Not as good as In and Out, which isn't as good as The Habit which is the best. But yesterday we went to the Thousand Oaks location for burgers and fries. You can't really mess up fries but the burgers were completely utterly tasteless. Nothing. I ordered the smaller burger with everything on it. Awful. The hamburger was crumbly and there was no flavor. I couldn't taste the tomato, lettuce, mushroom, cheese, mustard, catsup or the hamburger. Very odd. I ate half of it and threw the rest away. We have officially crossed Five Guys from our list! Makes me kind of sick to think I even ate half. Guess I was desperate.

I like this location. I have had "five guys burgers" before and this one is one of the best around. The service is always great and place is usually always clean as well. Only one complaint I always ask for BBQ on the side and about 50 percent of the time I have to go back up and ask. So close to five star. But I will be back for sure PS: The have 2 new coke machines that you can get so many cool flavor combinations!!!

The burgers are ok at best. What really brought me down was the price. Very expensive. I don't mind paying for a great burger. This is not the case at 5 Guys. The fries are very salt ( as per my son). You get a better burger at In-N-Out as well as a better price

Great tasting burgers! I love In-n-Out and Fatburger... Five Guys is up there with the big dogs! I definitely recommend them!

If we can all agree that a few categories of burgers and burger joints exists than we have the beginnings of a burger understanding. Five Guys is seated at the left wing of the "traditional burger" spectrum and do everything right from burger size to toppings to fries to beverage options and of course the free peanuts. This place isn't Burger King/McDonalds (thank god) and it's isn't Umami/Bachi or Fukuburger. It's in the fast fresh category along with In n Out/Fatburger and SmashBurger (more gourmet). The decorations are sparse but the food is where it's at. The burger seemingly have better beef ratio and flavor than In n Out. They compare well with Fatburger when you add relish. The extensive toppings list makes the burgers fairly customizable. I suggest you go bacon/cheese and "all the way" and adjust for any further toppings. In the end Fives Guys burger hit your table encompassing what I imagine in the quintessential backyard burger: moist, juicy and messy. The fries ...oh the fries. Traditional or Cajun. Go Cajun and grab a small bag for 2-3 people. One of the best tasting fries and deals at burger joint. The burgers are great but I crave the fries. Drinks are covered by super cool beverage kiosks with a plethora of flavors ....know if only they had a beer/wine license. ;)

The burgers are always great and the fries are by far the best! I ordered a little cheese burger with ketchup, tomato, grilled onions and mushrooms with a side of Cajon fries! They are soooo good. This location is the best I've visited, it has tons of seating and one of the employees even brought my food to my table with a side of ketchup. He was very sweet. (: since 5 guys is just around the corner from my office, I will be visiting again.

These guys make the best burgers. Their french fries are out of this world. I love going there to eat with my kids. Mostly for their french fries they give you so much and their seasoned and they taste so good I recommend this place absolutely

Went there for dinner tonight. I was the only one in the place and was surprised at how long it took to get my food. First, a comparable meal at In-n-out is about 1/2 of what it costs here. More importantly, it just wasn't as good as In-n-Out. The fries were overdone and SOGGY! The burger was ok but messy (went for the "all in" option) and just didn't taste that great. In-n-Out wins hands down i'm afraid... never again for 5 guys.

This place provides large portions with little ambiance !!! The taste and prep of the burgers and fries are wonderful, but had better bring a bib as the consumption has to be sloppy with the overflowing portions and size of the burgers with all the added stuff !!! A wonderful experience for those in washable or ready to be washed attire !!! I love it at times, but it takes a special girl to also love this type of meal - my girl likes more civil places so I don't get here often !!!

I am giving Five Guys 5 stars, because, in my opinion, they have the best fast, casual hamburger around. On top of that, no one comes close to beating their fries. I know it is sac religious in Southern California to not give the award to In-n-Out, but really??? There is no comparison. Five Guys burgers have more meat, are juicier, and just have more flavor, plus you can customize it more...and the fries, they are no contest. If I am in a hurry and just want a drive-thru, In-n-Out is okay, but if I have a few extra minutes, I will always choose Five Guys.

I really vacillated between 3 and 4 stars. Wish I could give 3 1/2. Their burgers and fries ARE delicious (I love when fries have some potato skin still on), but they're super greasy, and my taste buds tend to prefer beef when it's medium-rare. Like most affordable burger joints you've never going to get anything besides well-done. They are above In and Out in my opinion--I think In and Out's toppings, not the burger, are the key to their success--but below Smashburger. Last time I went here I ordered a single but got two patties, so I'm reluctantly bumping up to 4 stars. Also, the price is right.

Interior music is too loud and sounds tinny. Kind of irritating . Outside speakers actually sound better. Is 10 bucks the new norm for a burger fries and coke?

Food = Yay :) Service/Atmosphere = Nay :( The BURGERS are always Amazing and Incredibily delicious. Hotdogs not so much, but the FRIES are to die for, Excellent. However, I was a little Shocked about this location: 1- Most five guys are pretty clean, but the floors/tables were way dirty at this location. 2- The staff was a bit strange...... I walk in, (no customers were in the restaurant at the time, but a few on the Patio) Smile, say, "Hii!!!" No response from both employees in the store. (I hate that). I get to the register and again, say, "Hi, how are you?" to the employee. behind the register. No response. I told him, "I definitly want an order of fries, there so-" (was going to say good but he cut me off) and he said, "Okay, fries, only." I had to say, "Wait, I want a burger, too." I ordered my burger the way I like it and he basically didn't know what buttons to push to ring up my order. He called back to the other employee working in the back, "Uhhh.. How do I..." Maybe, it was his first day or he was in a bad mood or something? I dunno, he seemed a little lost. So, the employee working with the food came to the front and started pushing all these buttons and telling him what to do. Then he returned back to cooking food, not to mention he was singing the whole time very loud and obnoxiously. If you have a good voice, by all means, please sing, sing, sing! I Really love Five Guys Burgers and the food was delicious. The employee who made my burger did a Superb job. Excellent! I just really didn't like the atmosphere. Not inviting. The other 9 locations (that I have been to in & outside of CA) are fun, welcoming, good energy, and the employees are happy to help you. This totally bums me out because it is the closest Five Guys Burgers to my mom's place. I guess I'll just have to go to the Habit or Smashburger when I'm in my fam's neighborhood. Bummed : (

A single Dad with two kids so my resources need to go the distance. Sorry Five Guys $18 for a tiny mcdonalds dollar menu cheeseburger and an even smaller grilled cheese. Two fries dumped on top of sandwiches making them even smaller due to being mashed. Fries tasted pretty good. Drink was good too but $18 is a huge rip off. Music way too loud also. I would pass this place and just go to In N Out. Bummer

Was really looking forward to a Five Guys burger and fries but apparently they now only serve well done burgers. The counter person said it's the only way they can be cooked? I've asked for them med rare in the past and it was never a problem. Did/does Five Guys have a health problem that forces them to cook the crud out of their product... Bummer.

Their is a great debate between Five guys and In-N-Out. For me Five guys takes the crown because of the variety and selection of toppings you are optioned with. Cheese burget with bacon, grilled onions and mushrooms, jalapenos, lettuce, and A1 steak sauce! They also have my favorite type of french fry(thicker cut) and they do not get greedy with them its literally a bagful of fries!

The first time I had a Five Guys hot dog I picked it up on my way out of Long Island and stowed it away for my flight back to LA. Today, a Five Guys run will satisfying fast food treat. Every guy in the joint looks like he just boarded through the place. For those of you new to this store, it's In N Out with fresher ingredients and more options, not to mention killer thick cut fries. No wonder they're always packed full of satisfied customers.

  • Rebecca F.

Awful! Just awful! Limp, soggy fries. Burger patties with absolutely NO seasoning on them. A bun that can't last the entire burger before it disintegrates. And the tomatoes used were so under ripe they were white in the center. Avoid this place like the plague. Go to Habit. It's much better and much cheaper.

Burger is a burger no matter what way you cut it It's good...not amazing or mouth watering tilt my head back and dream of it delicious but..it'll do when it's 30 to 10 and you're starving I'm not a huge fan of the fries either...They need ranch dipping sauce AND ketchup Just sayin...

I heard so much hype about this place having 'amazzzzzzing burgers' so of course, I had to go try it. I definitely wasn't blown away by the burgers. Nothing special. I'm more taken by In n' Out. I do like 5 Guy's fries though (thicker cut). Maybe I'm not a fast food junkie, but I don't think this place is anything to rave about. I guess its cool to pick and choose your own condiments that they put on for you. Other than that, i'm not going to go out of my way to eat there. But people do love it, so I don't know. Def more of an In n Out fan.

They're fast and the food is always good. This must be the perfect time of day to come here because I'm the ONLY customer, which is odd because normally the place is packed. Kudos to Five Guys, whoever they are.

I was excited when it first opened. A line out the door, waiting a good 20 min in line just to order. Now, there is at least only one person in front of you when you order your food. Its either because they have excellent food service or the hype is over. In my opinion, the food was delicious but messy. A single patty bacon cheeseburger all the way (toppings include: mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, grilled onions, tomatoes, etc) will run you around $5.00. The burger alone compared to other places is a meal. If you do choose to order fries, the will give you more than enough. they fill the cup, then add another scoop when its placed in the bag. Don't forget, everything is cooked in peanut oil and supposedly healthier. When your here, expect to pay a little more than you should.

As a burger enthusiast, it really was criminal that it took so long for me to finally make it to a Five Guys, but I finally took the plunge to give it a proper go. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? It's a chain, so there's no hometown vibe at Five Guys, but they do a great job at bringing back the retro burger stand feel while setting the stage for a clean environment. One thing I did notice was that the walls were very literally plastered with various awards and newspaper articles, even further building up the overwhelming hype that I'd been fed for the past few years. All things considered, a nice place. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? As has been mentioned countless times, the fries come in absolute droves regardless of what size you order. However, the burger is what I was here for, and for $6.54, I got an average-sized burger with some nice extras (jalapenos, etc.). Nothing huge, but $7 isn't absurd these days for a fast casual burger. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Maybe it's In n' Out, or The Habit, or most certainly The Ranch, but the Agoura / Westlake / TO area has turned me into the stingiest of critics when it comes to burgers. Possibly attributable to the overwhelming hype that came with a Five Guys Burger, I was surprisingly left with a bit to be desired in terms of the taste of the burger. Sure, the patty was there with cheese and some extras, but I couldn't help but taste the individual components of the burger as opposed to taste that equated to something greater than the sum of its parts. Decent, but not even top 5 in the area. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Sorry Five Guys, but I can't say I was by any means blown away by my burger. Sure, the atmosphere is cool, and they're obviously doing quite a bit right to have received so much attention, but there are much better burgers in the area: yelp.com/user_local_phot… yelp.com/biz_photos/GlzN… yelp.com/user_local_phot… No Star Granted.

I wasn't overly impressed by the food but it wasn't bad. I did like the selections you have to add on the burger. One thing I wasn't aware of was that if you order the burger not being "little" you are actually getting a double. So it was way more food then I expected. The cashier was very pleasant and did ask how my day was. The cooks also seemed upbeat and fast to get out orders.

  • Jeff K.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt, but you'll probably need much more if you want to make the food here taste good. I came in to see what all the fuss was about, and left totally unimpressed. My food came in a paper bag that was completely translucent from grease, not a good sign. Everything was pretty flavorless and unsatisfying. With so many burger options in T.O. I would never even bother with this place.

    (2)
  • Angie D.

These guys make a pretty good burger but the French fries need a little bit more cooking time. After placing an online order and being only 5 minutes away I waited 20 minutes for my food and it took me 5 minutes to get back to work I was kind of disappointed with the time frame.

It might deserve a 2-star. So President OBAMA made "5 Guys" famous back in 2008 when he ate it a coupla times his first year as president and it hit the news cycle. Some papers exclaimed it "BETTER THAN IN AND OUT" and in the 2009 Burger taste test it was #2 in America right behind In and Out. So me and a few friends ventured out a coupla years ago to try it and it was so disappointing. The burger was "okay" but it was pricey. No where near IN AND OUT status. The hype was overhyped which was disappointing hence the addition 1-star deduction. Pricey... the toppings were good... the patty itself not so-much. The fries were so-so. Very disappointed we drove 20 miles out here...

  • Munch M.

I had to try this place because of the hype. I honestly have no idea what it is about. Intentionally overcooked, disgustingly greasy bland burgers, soggy and burnt regular fries or over-spiced cajun fries, and little selection. I've had fast food that blows this place away. If your only gauge of a burger's worth is how fat you feel after, then you'll probably like this place. If you have taste buds, then just about anywhere else will be a better option. They aren't even cheap!

Run, don't walk to 5 Guys. They are expanding into California (finally). Learned about 5 Guys from our son during a visit to Florida. A very, very simple menu, and if you remember to just get the (not so) Little Burger and a (not so) small order of fries (and split that between two of you), it's not all that nutritionally suspect. The burgers are perfectly cooked and juicy, their fries are done right and very fresh (there are 50 pound bags of raw potatoes lined up near the registers). When we went there on a Friday night at the Thousand Oaks store, they were doing a land-office business, so there may be a wait. They have a wide variety of toppings for the burgers.

Recently Zagat's rated this the best burger in America, dethroning In 'n' Out's long reign as king. Anxious to try "the best burger", I hopped in my car and came down to Five Guys having no prior knowledge other than that it's a place. The whole look of the restaurant is cheap red-and-white decor with stock font choices and checkerboard signage... it didn't look like a fancy place that housed such an honor (although in it's defense, In 'n' Out looks cheap, too). Your burger comes plain, and you add the toppings you want (12 are free, cheese and bacon are extra). There are no value meals, so you must add fries and cola. While you wait you can scoop up all the peanuts you want out of a cardboard box. This actually makes a lot of sense, as it seems the turn-around time for an order is quite a long (greater than 10 minutes). The fries are make in peanut oil, which gives them an interesting taste, a decent crisp, and a little bit of sogginess for extra goodness. They come in a cup and then pour out into the bag with an extra scoop. They are quite delicious, however it appears ketchup is your only dipping option for use condiment people. The burger is a default double-patty, which I had no idea. Hot, with melted cheese, and delicious grilled onion, it really does present itself well. The chose-your-own toppings made a really custom burger that was quite tasty. Now the scrutiny. This is not the best burger. Then again, I don't think In 'n' Out has the best burger, either. It was certainly delicious, but it reminded me very much of The Habit's burger, except with a poorer presentation and overall not as good of a taste. Plus Five Guys left a ding in my wallet -- I could have saved $4 going to Habit. It's certainly good -- no arguing that -- and certainly better than your common drive-thru variety that makes this burger a hit outside California. But this might as well obscure with the rest of good choices us spoiled Californians have for burger choices. So if you find yourself in the area, come down and try something new. But don't venture out here in the hopes that Zagat's is correct in crowning Five Guys the best burger in all the nation. In fact, go to The Habit and have a similar-but-better tasting burger, save yourself some money, and know there's a place to check off on your to-do list someday.

I'm not sure why everyone's so anti this place. I know as southern californians we're super pro in and out, but I feel like there should be enough love in all of our hearts for lots of delicious burger places. I'd definitely eat here again. The fries are fab (both the seasoned and the salted) and they have malted vinegar available, which I love. The cheeseburger is an undertaking; It's big. I got it with everything and found the mushrooms a tasty surprise. I was also surprised to realize that the "cheeseburger" means two patties. I'll get the jr. next time. However, in my opinion, the ambiance is definitely lacking. It's pretty sterile and they play the music really loudly. It's even cranked up outside.

Just finished up lunch and I went with a regular cheeseburger and Cajun fries. Free toppings included: grilled onions, grilled shrooms, ketchup, mustard, and jalapenos. I think my friend nailed it... "It tastes like a double cheeseburger from Burger King." He's right... I noticed a shocking similarity. "Free toppings" is like saying a Big Mac is a burger that comes with "FREE" special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and a 3-part sesame seed bun. I gave it 2 stars because overall, it's an edible burger and the fries are above average. But if you want the truth... then here's the break down... In n' Out would get 3 stars and hands down crushes Five Guys... The Habit takes them both down with 4 stars... and the only 5 star burger in recent memory would be Jake's Diner in Pasadena. A wise man once said, when leaving Five Guys after lunch, "That was a F'ing disa-F'ing-pointment."

I notice all of the Californian born and raised haters here who think that the Burger world is owned and ruled by In-N-Out. Well, theyre wrong. First of all, I was born and raised in SoCal, the Valley to be exact. So this review has some credibility. I moved out to the Washington DC area about 6 years ago and was introduced to 5 Guys then. At first, I thought the burger was decent, might not have been up to INO's standards. But as I frequented Cali on trips and visited INO over the years, I noticed that their burgers got worse and worse by the trip from a quality and flavor perspective. 5 Guys burger is a MUbetter tasting burger than an In-N-Out burger ANY DAY of the week! I will agree that it is pricey for what you get, but you do get what you pay for...

Just got back from lunch and it was decent overall. Here are the pros: -Fast -Affordable -Toppings are free -Fries were fresh -Great selection other than JUST hamburgers -Friendly & knowedable staff Here are the cons: -I am now deaf. I am a loud person and don't mind loud places, but this place was beyond obnoxious. In fact, I nearly had a panic attack because of it! Where is Xanax -Small outside seating. Seems like everyone wants to get away from the noise, so they head outside. -Cramped quarters. There isn't much room to move around once the tables are taken, kind of an awkward set up. Overall, it was decent. I will most likely be back since they are located so close to my office, but it's certainly not anything to write home about. The Counter & Fathers Office are still my favorite burger joints. As far as fast service, like Five Guys, goes...stick to In N' Out.

SO EXCITED! SO GOOD! Beats Habit, In and Out hands down. Sorry but free toppings make me smile. Discovered 5 Guys back in Michigan this winter and was disppointed that the only one in So. Cal was in Carson which is a hike! The little burger is more than adequate and the reg fries is more than enough for 2 people. Very fresh, very tasty and priced well. In and Out is So Cals burger I know but it kinda sucks. This place blows em away hands down!

This place is amazing, albeit ridiculously busy. Although that's probably a testament to how good the burgers are here. I can't wait 'til their Northridge location opens up, then It'll be so much more convenient than driving all the way out to Thousand Oaks Now, there's all this talk about the great burger debate. In-N-Out or Five Guys? The true answer is that it's a completely different burger experience and you can't compare the two. Five Guys is great because the burgers and hot dogs feel very homemade. The meat is almost falling apart, and has a great flavor. Their cheese is of great quality as well. The other toppings are also fantastic. My personal favorite is their cheeseburger with lettuce, grilled mushrooms, and A1 steak sauce. Incidentally, that same combo goes great on their cheese dogs, which I highly recommend. It's not In-N-Out, but it doesn't have to be. It does its own great thing by itself.

Good burgers! I ordered a cheeseburger and then a "little" bacon cheeseburger. I did not realize that the regular cheeseburger is a double and the little one is a single. The Little burgers are far from little, about 1/4 lb and the regular double is about 1/2 lb. Good flavor, fresh toppings, good flavor to the meat. The fries were yummy, fresh and good. But damn!!! They love to toot their own horn, don't they? The walls of this place are plastered with hundreds of their great reviews from almost every publication coast to coast. If you hype yourself up that much, people are going to have an unrealistic expectation of your product. Like some sort of reinvention of the burger. Too much hype, especially while waiting in line. One last thing. Don't compare this place to In-N-Out, you will also be disappointed. In-N-Out is unique to itself.

I don't bother to read the reviews so here is my opinion of this location. The food is good but service can be stepped up a notch. Clean your tables make sure the place is clean and everything else will fall into place! I love the mushrooms inside the burger. The meat taste good not like other places I rather not name. Get the burger with everything :o) and the Fry's Cajun style are better than the regular fries. I would go here again just wish they would keep the peanut mess under control

Here's how my Five Guys experience went down: I was listening to the radio on the way to work one morning. On KLOS, Mark and Brian were rattling off the Best Burger of 2010 List. Naturally, I perked up (I'm a burger whore... Shhhh...) and turned the volume up. The list was not life-changing. I agreed with some, disagreed with others. What I was really hoping for was a place I had never heard of. Some local, hidden jewel of a restaurant that spun burgers out of dreams, gold and heaven. And then they announced the list's #1 burger: Five Guys. What's this?? Could it be...? The secret burger Mecca I had been hoping for? When I got to work, I looked it up. For a moment, my heart sank because it seemed to be more of an East Coast thing. But then... Thousand Oaks?? That was definitely doable! So the next day, I prepared myself for lunch at Five Guys (I work in Simi Valley) and perused the menu online. I noted all of the choices of toppings but finally decided on a basic cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato & onions. I phoned in my order, drove down the freeway and found myself inside of a super crowded, super loud, red and white, peanut shell-covered mad house. It took a while to get my order, despite the fact that I had phoned it in before I even left work. When I got my order, I found a greasy, leaking, wet mess of a burger wrapped in foil. The paper bag was practically transparent from the oily, soggy, flaccid fries sitting at the bottom. And yeah... this was certainly not a cheap bag of sogginess I had just bought. I ate the burger but felt more like I was fighting with it rather than eating it. Fighting to keep the huge, soggy mess together while trying to keep myself semi-clean. I finally had to throw in the towel. I also had maybe 3 sad, limp fries (desperately in need of fry-agra) before I officially called it quits. *Sigh* This was it? The so-called #1 burger in the country? I beg to differ. To be fair though, In-N-Out is not my favorite burger (*gasp* And I'm a SoCal native! *gasp again* Oh, and I HATE In-N-Out's fries.. Yeah, I said it! ), so I'm not trying at all to compare the two. My favorite burger remains to be the typical diner burger usually found in hole-in-the-wall diners... Clean, simple, well-seasoned and just, well... good. And sorry Five Guys, but that just ain't you.

Better than the one I ate at in san diego. But still not impressed with the place. Just the burgers are ok. The fries have been ;imp and nasty. The hot dogs are better than the burgers they serve i think. Not really seeing how they are better than in n out. But i say they are not better. Well ok better than mcdonalds wendy's and burger king yes. But just those places.

Five Guys has the best french fries, maybe ever. Just right, fresh cut skin on medium size bigger than In-and-Out and McDonald's fried in peanut oil and they give you a lot. Piping hot. Outstanding fries. The Burger? So-so. I wanted to like it, but sorry. Much larger than In-and-Out and though I ordered a single standard cheeseburger I was delivered a double cheeseburger. Personally I think a single burger would have been better because the thing I fault the burger on was the meat. I think because it had no sear on it it was rather blah. National kudos or not, Five Guys is not the best to me. Oh yeah. $9.12 for cheeseburger and fries.

If you want to compare this place to In-N-Out, please don't waste your time; there is no comparison. I knew nothing of five guys until one of my friends said, "They're putting in a Five Guys in Thousand Oaks; you should give them a try". I drove by a few weeks later and it was open, so I decided to stop by. The first thing I noticed was that there was a decent amount of outdoor seating, which I like. The interior has an oddly cafeteria-like feel; I think it's something about the way the tables and counter are positioned. After checking out the menu, which has burgers, hot dogs and fries, I placed my order for a bacon burger and regular fries (This came out to be a little over $9, with tax). Service with a smile was temporarily out of stock at this particular location. Not wanting to stand while they got my order ready, I grabbed a seat at the closest empty table. I would have liked to sit at a table that was not covered in peanut shells; however, this was not an option. I did not see one single clean table. Nobody seems to mind peanut shells on the floor at Five Guys, so if I hadn't been taking my order to go, an option would have been to brush them of the table onto the floor. While I waited, I read the signs that litter the walls; these are posted to remind everyone just how unbelievably super Five Guys is; people apparently are in constant danger of forgetting this fact. My order arrived in an unmarked brown paper bag. Silly me, I should have checked the contents before I drove home. I asked for a bacon burger with lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, pickles, mushrooms and hot sauce. I got a DOUBLE bacon burger with lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. What was on my receipt matched what I ordered, and my receipt matched the other receipt that was taped to the bag that my order came in... There were no other people ordering immediately before or after me, so I'm reasonably sure I didn't get someone else's burger. What happened? So, now I'm home and I have two choices. I can drive back to Five Guys and get a new burger, or I can just eat the one I got. The one I got was a double burger, and it's rare that screw-ups work in my favor, so I chose to eat. I was not dissuaded by the deep, unmistakable thumbprint. I know how hard it must be to build a burger without pressing one's thumb into the top bun. I am certainly not going discard a perfectly good burger because of it, but I still despise seeing the thumbprint. I bit into the burger. It was ample but not memorable. The meat was dry. The veggies were veggies and the bacon was limp and chewy. Of course, next time I could choose to avail myself of sauces, such as A1, that are provided by Five Guys for the purpose of enhancing my burger experience. That could be their secret to making the bland chunk of food that I got into something swell, and probably there's a sign inside that says as much. The fries were good. They reminded me of sit-down restaurant fries, soggy and substantial, not the crispy twigs that you get at most other fast food places. I may give Five Guys one more chance just so I can try the Cajun fries. Barring the hope of a starchy Cajun salvation for my opinion of Five Guys, I will probably never be tempered to eat there again. There are so many better, cheaper alternatives. Do not go to Five Guys if you want a satisfying, savory burger. Avoid them entirely if you have a life-threatening peanut allergy. It's not that the Five Guys in Thousand Oaks is terrible; they are simply not in the same league as other, better burger joints in the same vicinity.

Best burgers and fries EVER. When this place set up in Thousand Oaks I heard nothing but good news from my friends. I only had one question, which was "Why is it called 'Five Guys'?" Nobody seemed to have an answer. Several of my co-workers make fun of the name because they don't respect the burger culture. I was skeptical about this place at first but one day my friend talked me into going in. When you first walk in, it's hard to miss the quotes and good reviews posted all over the room. There are signs everywhere saying things like "Voted Best Burger" and "Heaven on a bun" and stuff like that. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with everything and jalapeno peppers. I was about to order fries but my friend stopped me and told me that 1 order of fries is good for 2 - 3 people. He was right. They also offer endless peanuts, which again my friend stopped me saying "don't, you wont have room, trust me." Again, he was right. The reviews did not lie, it was the best burger ever. There is flavor in every bite, the meat tastes like meat and isn't thinner than the cheese. They are generous with their portions, and give you more fries than one person could eat. The burger is greasy (the way a burger was meant to be) because A. it tastes amazing and B. people don't go to Five Guys to order a salad. I have been back several times since and have yet to be disappointed. I would recommend this place to everyone. I would go every day if they built one in Agoura Hills.

This is an update just to let you know that after my review, the general manager sent me a note letting me know that I can visit again with the meal on him. I haven't yet got back, but of course, I have to say that that is a very nice gesture.

Twelve Bucks for Burger, Fries and Drink! Outrageous! I'm surprise their still in business! In N Out is way better!

Both my daughter and I tried this supposedly 'yummy' place. It SUCKED!!!! Huge disappointment for ALOT more money than In N Out. The Habit is better for the same amount of money. Don't go!

Hard to understand how this place is so successful The burger is awful the meat is cheap. The bun is soggy There is really just not anything good to say aside from the fact the the workers were friendly and nice. But I wouldnt eat there again even if they gave me a free burger

It's okay here...nothing spectacular! I thought the burgers tasted like backyard BBQ burgers. It's cool you can get toppings for free, but the selection is less than at the Counter in Westlake...It's an In N Out Rip off for sure though. The ambiance reminded me of a high school cafeteria, especially with all the signage and posters (I was looking for the "NO RUNNING IN THE HALLS" sign and was waiting for the bell to ring!)...the layout of the seats was less than appealing as well, and it was loud! Their potato and peanut oil back stock can be found all around the dinning area which I guess is part of their carefree "look". You get free peanuts while you wait, which seems a little odd to me, and I would like it more if you could throw the shells on the ground like at the bball stadium... I did like the fries better though than In N Outs! Larger cut and softer. (Cajun available too!) It's nice they have hot dogs too for those that like em. I have to admit I will likely be back when I crave a simple backyard burger, just cause it's so close to my apt. It's nice to have a burger joint other than In N Out around...some healthy competition is good, right?! I can't imagine a burger joint will do THAT well here though with Fuddruckers not lasting long on the same corner practically, and the In N Out loyalty that is in abundance in this area....only time will tell.

I guess my opinoin is a bit different than everyone else here, cause I like the burgers quite a bit. You can order exactly what you want on your burger, the patties are freshly made and the music is vintage. What's not too like? No it's not a Fuddrucker's, but the meal is reasonably priced and you get all the free peanuts you want! We've been here about 3 times and it's certainly on our rotation of local spots for lunch.

I'm with all the other Yelpers.... The burgers are like something you can make at home. The Cajun fries we greasy, but good. I can't believe that I spent $12 on burger, fries, & soda. And it wasn't even close to being good. But I had to see for myself...that's just me.

  • Little Miss C.

I can't deny that the burgers here are delicious, but I can't say they're better than in n out. It's hard for me to justify spending 10 dollars for a burger and some fries when there's no waiter service and there's an obnoxious voice coming over the loudspeaker every few mintues to announce an order. If i wanted that, i'd go to the habit or even mcdonalds and spend much less. Like i said, the burgers are tastey but their prices are a little too hefty to justify the quality of the experience as well as the quality of the food. Also, the fries were so-so, carls jr fries are better. However, If I get the craving for a huge burger I might head over there regardless!

  • Mark M.

This place blows. Why would anyone want to go here? The free peanuts are the best thing unless you like overpriced burgers. Go to in n out for a much better experience.

My BF and I had been wanting to try Five Guys since before they opened and since I rarely say yes when a burger joint is suggested for dinner...when Five Guys was the only viable option last week, I was HAPPY to give it a try! BF and I love In N Out burger and when we walked towards the door of 5 guys, you can see that at least in decor and ambiance, the restaurants are extremely similer. I also saw the grilled cheese or veggie sandwich on the menu, and got a little excited to try these. I ordered a Grilled Cheese with all the fixins. (I knew I should have gotten a burger!!) and my BF ordered a Cheeseburger. We got 1 large regular Fries to split. They served our meal to us in a bag. We were clearly sitting at a table with drinks and napkins and were not taking it to go. I pulled the dripping leaking foil wrapped sandwiches out of the bag wondering why they do not use trays. Do they? Moving on... I thought the grilled sheese was just not so good:( Too messy, heavy, nothing tasted really great! BF liked the burger, yet we both missed us some animal sauce!!!!!! We both liked the fries. BF would come back, I would have to think twice. Also the posters are a bit much. I mean we get it, people like you! The walls were PLASTERED. Too much expectation I think.... This place also offers peanuts and I guess you can throw the shells on the floor. I am not a fan. I have seen this done well (at the dark saloon steakhouse) but here in the bright room all I could see was shells and the staff cleaning up the shells. Who needs to shove peanuts in your face before chowing down on a burger and fries anyway? I wish there was a vegetable crudite option for the free appetizer:) Although I wish them luck, I will be saving my burger consuption for In N Out burger.

I've been to most of the Five Guys locations in SoCal. My two favorites are the Cerritos and Carson locations as the food and service are consistent and very good to excellent. I've been to the TO location twice and both times left with the feeling that this location is the worst one.

The small burger and cajun fries are the boom for lunch. Would go again definitely!

  • Bonnie S.

There isn't much different about this place from in and out except the peanuts. Also, we didn't know that the "typical burger" choice was the double double and that you had to order like a mini or whatever they call it to get a regular size cheeseburger. The cost was considerably more and the fries were not as good in my opinion. However, if your in the mood for in and out, there's one in Newbury park or in east Simi, so, this is probably your best pick for that taste without the drive

bacon cheeseburger + A1 + jalapeno peppers = 4 stars for me fries were also good. would still go to in n out instead, no milkshakes. decor is much like in n out with the yellow.

New Burger rankings for Ventura County: 1. 5-guys burgers in TO 2. Hook Burger in Oxnard 3. In-n-out in Oxnard 4. Habit in Ventura 5 guys tops the list because man that burger was loaded! Weighing in at over a pound, it had every garnish I wanted and actually even layered across the burger. Original burger = double pattie, small burger = single pattie. The grilled onions and mushrooms were excellent. The bacon was cooked perfectly (not burned, not flimsy, crunchy all the way through). I like that there are about 20 different toppings for me to choose from. Cashier spoke perfect English (++), was courteous and explained the menu to me. The Cajun fries were awesome, just the right amount of spice and heat. I like the peanuts they had out for self service before my burger was ready (about 4 minutes during lunch rush.) Trust me, this burger was amazing. Taste, texture, and visual were all excellent. I would have given them 5 stars if they: had milkshakes and ranch and a drive through. They said milkshakes were coming this summer. Now prats like Tyler H. may question why in-n-out is third on the list. I have a few reasons. At the top of my list is bacon. In-n-out doesn't have it, never has and never will. Second is the wait time at in-n-out. Easily 20-25 minutes during a lunch rush, which is ridiculous. Hook has a bar as well delicious burgers for the same price as in-n-out. What sealed the deal for me was the size of the burger and a wider variety of toppings. In-n-out is good, for sure, but its boring after a couple of decades. So In-n-out sets the bar for a quality burger, 5-guys goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Lots of hype... drove 34 miles to try the burger i heard was muchbetter then in n out. Fail. Dry boring burger. All the toppi...ngs? More hype! Mustard, ketchup, mayo, these are lame toppings. Who cares if you can pick them .$ 23 for 2 people. Very disappointing and expensive. Overall a total fail

As a self-professed burger aficionado, I just HAD to try this place out when I realized that they were finally expanding to the west coast. Although I live in the Valley, my hair dresser is in Oak Park, so I did not really have to go WAY out of my way to try this tasty treat. It was worth the extra drive! When you first walk in, the place will probably be pretty busy. The burgers are large and a "Jr" is really a regular burger and the perfect sized portion for the average person. The burger was juicy and savory and in my opinion, cooked to perfection. I am also very much in love with their cajun fries and the great seasoning that they put on them. The fry portion however is a little large, so if you go with a group of 2 or more, you may want to share. I don't get the peanuts thing and did not partake in that Five Guys tradition. I figured if I am going to spend more than McDonald's prices to eat their food, then I am surely not going to ruin my appetite with peanuts... Now I am patiently waiting for the new store in Northridge to open soon. Open..open..open....

I went back to the TO location for a second visit a few months later to give them a second chance. Oops, big and expensive mistake. They must have paid off Zagat to get a rating. In 'n Out is hands down the best and the Habit is also excellent compared to this slop. We could have had at least two meals for the price of this mess. And, I ordered protein style, but, guess what....they don't do wraps and just give you some pieces of lettuce. I needed a knife and fork. My son ordered fries...they were greasy and burned. The bun was kind of moist and smashed from being in foil. No milk shakes but peanuts..heck, even the airlines can't serve peanuts...what's up with that? Five Guys is a poor wannabe of In'n Out. The back east folks can keep their crappy weather and Five Guys....give me In 'n Out in Socal anyday!

After hearing SO MUCH about this place we went to dinner there tonight and you know what....Eh it wasn't anything special. It seems like the entire place was designed to be mistaken for In 'N' Out burger, the decor etc. were nothing more than a knockoff! The burgers were okay, but do not even come close to a Double Double. The "Cajun" fries were undercooked, soft, floppy and without enough flavor to be considered Cajun in the first place! The option of additions to the burgers was a decent enough idea, the meat was of good quality and cooked well, but it seemed very amateur. It really seemed as though they were a brand new restaurant that was still tinkering with the process of preparing food for a large group of people! I also have to mention...there were a LOT of people here (I'm really not sure why), and it seemed like a living version of "People of Walmart" (If you don't know, look it up at peopleofwalmart.com ), we had more fun watching the variety of persons entering the establishment than eating the food there!! I (an amateur), make better burgers, In 'N' Out is in NO danger whatsoever and we will NEVER bother with this place again!

    (1)
  • Christopher D.

So I decided to give them another try awhile later. The place looks a lot cleaner than I remember it, and the burger I got was much better tasting than before. I still don't like the fries, and even with how good the burger is, it's still a bit pricey for a burger. If the prices would come down about 5-10%, it would be good competition for In'N'Out.

    (3)
  • Dougie B.

the bun is whitebread..... this burger tastes just like the ones my dad used to make. The fries are the best part and no i wouldn't say it's worth the price.

After watching a few news channels this previous week I drove out from LA to Thousand Oaks to see what the whole fuss was about this new burger place that rivals In-n-Out. Traffic was horrible to drive to TO got to the place few people in line, ordered the bacon cheeseburger with everything on it along with fried and Cajun fries. It was a different taste nothing like In-n-Out, you cant compare them the burger was tasty and fresh and the ingredients were so good specially the mushroom in my burger. So I recommend it its not bad the place is crowded tried it on Sat for the first time and drove down again on Monday what a pig..Lol

The burgers are good. The flavors are definitely different than In and Out. Both In and Out and 5 guys have their good qualities and bad qualities. For example In and Out has amazing toasted buns, this place gives you a regular company BBQ bun. However, the meat at In and Out is fairly dry and bland, but they have the sauce to make up for it. 5 Guys patties taste juicy, and freshly formed. There is also much more meat in the burger. When I got my burger, i was surprised by how heavy it was. I also liked that they put the perfect amount of grilled onions and mushrooms (they have a large number of free toppings) in the burger that didn't overpower it. The fries at 5 guys were pretty bland though. They weren't as crisp and fresh tasting as i had hoped. I heard they they were ranked number two in the nation for their fries. I Think Carl's JR natural cut fries were much better than these. These were large cuts, but fairly squishy, and boring. I prefer In and Out fries by far. You can also order cajun spiced fries. The spice is pretty good, but again, put on a boring fry doesn't make it amazing. I would put some of that spice on In and Out fries and that would be awesome. The interior is decorated in really annoying patterns, and the seating seems cafeteria style. Its not that comfortable of a place to eat, and it was packed with people when I went, so you end up sitting next to other people. Overall I think the food is ok, but it doesn't outshine in and out like some people make it seem. It really depends what you are in the mood for. Both restaurants will satisfy you with a great burger and good fries, but 5 guys is much more expensive. You could go out to a sit down restaurant for how much it will cost you. Also parking is hard to find, and no drive throughs.

Whoever said this is good is retarded. Go to in and out for a much better meal for half the price. I had a lame burger, fries, and a soda for a whopping $11+!!!

    (1)
  • Martha F.

Not impressed at all. I was dissapointed because their burgers lacked flavor. I was waiting to be wow'd but that definetly did not happen. If you want a quality burger, this is not the place

    (2)
  • L. P.

I can definitely see the appeal of this place. I really like how you can customize the burgers and they are really generous with their fries (p.s. don't order a large fry, you won't need it). The food is a little too greasy for my taste, and the place was a little dirty (hence the 3 stars but). I still like in n out better but overall I wouldn't mind coming back here.

    (3)
  • Ling Ling Z.

Its alright. Perhaps it was overhyped, I was not too impressed. I wouldn't say it is better than In 'n Out or The Habit, and it is pricier! $20 for 2 ppl and we shared a regular fries!

    (2)
  • Jennifer J.

I was really hoping this might rival other So. Cal burgers, so I had to try it. Over $43 for 2 mini bacon cheese burgers, 2 reg burgers, 2 small fries (cajun & regular) 4 small drinks. I guess you pay for all those free toppings and peanuts whether you order them or not. The burgers taste like almost any average burger. The bacon was nice and crispy but that's not enough to save it. The bun barley supports the mini-burger, the regular burger is just a mess and falls apart after one bite. Fries are soggy, cajun ones at least taste better. Better burgers, shorter lines, nicer dinning rooms and cheaper prices can be found everywhere. Habit, Islands, Chilis, Johnnie Rockets, Boulevard Burgers, Chef Burger.....and the winner bar none IN-N-OUT. This place makes me feel sorry for the East coast for yet one more reason.

    (2)
  • Bepen P.

I was expecting such great things after hearing about it from East Coast. Went on Saturday night around 7pm. Place was packed so again expecting good things. The fries weren't bad, but I was disapppointed in the burgers. In and Out still rules hands down. It was just an okay burger. I wasn't impressed. That was first and last time I go there. Also, it wasn't the cheapest thing either.

    (2)
  • M K.

5 guys was a huge disappointment. The bun was soft and soggy and the meat was cooked too well done and not very tasty. The burger tends to fall apart when you first open it and the condiments weren't fresh at all. Maybe it was just an off night. However, the only thing we really enjoyed were the hot dogs but they were overpriced, . I'll probably just stick with in-n-out in the future.

    (1)
  • Jason B.

You're better off with In'N'Out. This costs considerably more. The burgers are marginally better but fries are worse as is the atmosphere.

    (2)
  • Mario L.

Tried Five Guys for the first time and I was a little disappointed after all the hype. My burger was okay, the beef patties were of good quality, but were a little bland tasting. The fries were okay as well. Price wise, it wasn't worth it imho. I prefer The Habbit and In-N-Out over Five Guys.

    (3)
  • Mac P.

The burgers are good but on the pricey and greasy side. The line is long, the atmosphere is not great but not unpleasant either. There are much better burger options near by: In'n out, the habit, fuddrukers and the counter for example

  • Convey R.

Over priced and over hyped. There are hidden costs, those add-ons aren't free. I can go to The Hat spend less and get way more and a better burger.

Just went here for the second time and yes, I liked it just as much as I did the first time. The burger was substantial and juicy; it actually had flavor as opposed to In N Out and The Habit which I find to be kind of tasteless. I like a fairly plain burger (maybe a little mustard and pickle), so the burger itself has to be tasty. I think at the other 2 places the toppings are more flavorful, so the burger itself doesn't have to be the star. At 5 Guys, the burger IS the star! The bun is delicious, soft and chewy; it works very well with the meat. The fries are plentiful and very good; got the cajun fries this time....they were ok, nothing too special but yummy. All in all, I am a 5 guys kind of girl!

My kids and I love going there!!!! Kids love the free peanuts! LOL and we all love everything they custom make for us! The meat is always juicy and the burgers are huge! I can never finish one! You gotta try their Cajun seasoned fries! I always get some more to go too!

Mission complete. What a fuck'n good burger! Double with cheese, bacon, tomato, onions, pickles, lettuce, mustard, mayo and ketchup combined with an order of fries. Simply put a real burger that is tasty filling and fresh. I will be returning! Thanks to James for the strong recommendation

i had mine to-go and it had to travel about 30 minutes to me...so i cant say this is a completely accurate review... i liked the fries. cut thick, but not too thick...well seasoned (salt only)...seemed like boardwalk fries...i wanted to dump malt vinegar all over them. the burger itself was nice and soft. maybe a little too soft. definitely juicy. did seem like it needed salt. pickles were good and thick...i will say that the burger was big...and that the prospect of all the free toppings you want is tempting enough to go back in and try one fresh off the grill... i cant say i liked it better than in n out. i definitely prefer fat burger or the habit... but im willing to give five guys another shot.

It's nice for a place in thousand oaks to have a place like this. You are able to choose what you want on your burger, and they put it together! Personally my favorite is the over seasoned fries!!!!

  • Old man W.

Great burger! Got the dbl chz "all the way" with A1 sauce and devoured it in 3.6 seconds. Came in at 9pm and everything was fresh. Fries had good flavor and were plentiful. My only knock would be that there's no combo option so it's tough to get a full meal for under $10 making it more of a luxury visit than a regular thing.

It reminds me of an old fashioned burger. Load it up and enjoy. Really good fries. Try it if you haven't already. It's a hit.

A lot of hype around this place, but I wasn't too impressed. I got the double bacon burger, which was okay, but I think there was way too much stuff on it and I couldn't really taste the burger - probably my fault for ordering it that way. And the cajun fries were awful - soft and way too much seasoning. It was pricey too (about $12 with a drink), but it was a ton of food. Sorry Five Guys, but I won't be going back.

What the? Expensive and insulting. Burgers are small, not impressive and expensive. Add insult to injury by forcing me to have a paper bag even when I'm eating here. Very wasteful. This place is not even close to being in the same league as In n Out. I tried it twice and both times left sad.

    (2)
  • Bryan M.

tried this out for the first time. i got the bacon burger with fries. i was not impressed. first off the meal was 12 bucks which was way too expensive for fast food. it also did not meet my expectations by a long shot. in n out kicks this place in the nuts every time for about 5 bucks.

  • Victoria B.

The burger was great, fries were horrible, kind of overpriced and I wasn't a fan of the atmosphere/decor. I'd go again for the burger but I definitely don't get what all the hype is about.

  • Lori L.

I know they have dozens of toppings but big deal! It isn't worth paying the extra $$$ Their fries are so greasy and not very good at all. I prefer In n' Out to this place. A family of four with greasy burgers, drinks and 2 sides of fries and I paid almost $50??? Sheesh! They are not that great. I won't be going back.

  • Brandon L.

This place is sort of a mixture of styles. The Menu is simple with fresh food (like In N Out), they have peanuts and you throw the shells on the floor (like a bar), and the place was loud (like a jet engine). The Food was acceptable, not great. It seems to be an east coast style of burgers and fries. I think most southern Californians are used to an In-N-Out style of burger and fries. The Meat was very juicy, but has fat visibly dripping from it. The fries were overly abundant, thick-cut and limp from the grease. The Grilled Cheese was downright bad--Poor tasting american cheese on a bun. Self serve boxes of peanuts on top of the trash cans(?!) but the peanut flavor didnt really blend with the rest of the food.

best burgers period. toppings are above and beyond, fries are fresh and tasty too.

I love this place. Burger is made to order with your choice of toppings. Fries are ample and one order is enough to share between two people. Not sure why such bad rating...

I didn't want to like it. The obvious copy catting of In N Out is a little much I thought. And it's more expensive. But on the other hand, they serve that big box of peanuts is fun, and the hamburger is made with a large patty of meat. It's more a traditional hamburger the way you'd make it in your backyard. I defnitely enjoyed it.

I gave this place a try on two separate occassions after being hounded about it. I was told that it is a legit threat to my oh so beloved In N Out. All I can think is "what the hell were these people smoking?!" I'm sorry but Five Guys pales in comparison to In N Out. Not only are their prices outrageous (plus, there are no combo options), the food was mediocre at best. The option to add different toppings appealed to me as did having an option on the fries. The truth is, no matter what goes on the burger, they still some how managed to seem pretty tasteless. I didn't really care for the buns either, which have a habit of disintegrating two bites in. The fries were a whole other story. Thick, starchy fries are not really my thing. Thick, starchy and SOGGY fries are really, REALLY not my thing. The first time I had them, I just assumed they committed fry-suicide on the way home (about 4 miles away) and sogged up in the bag. The second time I ate them, we decided to eat them in the restaurant. Just like the first time, they were soggy, greasy and bland. My fiance thinks their burgers are ok, but overall I am disappointed. I think two tries with this place was enough. I don't really feel like they are worthy of the "third time charm" attempt. I'll stick to In N Out for my burger cravings.

It's not great but not bad. Too many signs when you walk in. I just kept thinking, "Ok we get it. Your # 1 in (fill in the blank with a city)". I would come again though :o)

again, I agree with many of the previous reviews. this place is nothing to write home about. it's very loud and chaotic inside - with 15 guys working behind the counter yelling out odd hyperbole. they are expensive - a burger/fries/drink will run you upwards of $13 or more depending on what you get. the presentation is very sloppy (especially compared to the Counter) and does not taste special. don't understand the hype. only redeeming quality is their selection of toppings for the burgers - more than you usually get to pick from.

  • Heather C.

It looks like In N Out but it's not. They give you the burger wrapped in aluminum foil even though you're eating it there so the bun gets soggy. Also the fries, even though they give you tons of it, is soggy. Cajun fries had the right flavoring but they need to cook it more. They get two stars for all the toppings you can get as well as the peanuts.

Not what it was supposed to be. Too much hype. In&Out 10 times better easily. If you want a burger and fries its okay but its not going to blow you out of the water by any means.

Good burger, good fries, and if you order the regular of both, a whole lot of food. That said, over $11 for a burger, fries and coke is pretty damn pricey, twice as much as at In-n-Out or Carls, and almost twice that of the Habit.

This is no news to anyone if you are reading the other reviews, but I wasn't impressed. Is California the only state which knows a good burger, probably not but what the heck. These guys, the 5 guys were rated up the wazoo but it was a big let down. Not to say their burger wasn't good, it was, but for the price to taste ratio they get a single star. Not to disrespect another's opinion but the frtes were some where between Jack in the Box and Micky Ds and there was a miscarriage, (Sorry Mike S.) I am a fry sommolier, and have the pedigree to prove it, no disrespect intended. I will send fries back if they are not right, they have to be golden brown, crispy on the outside and tender inside. No one should put up with anything less. People demand good fries you are paying for it!!!!! Any way got off on a tangent for a sec, if you want a great burger at a great combo price try this wonderful establishment The Habit, I promise you will love it. The King decrees it!

After this place tied with In & Out for the Consumer Reports best fast food burger I had to try it. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with "everything." Not impressed. Save your money and go to Wendy's. Their burgers taste pretty similar. A burger, fries, and drink will run you around $10. Kind of expensive for fast food. I gave this 2 stars which is "Meh. I've experienced better." In & Out is better. The Habit is better.

Most of those giving poor ratings to 5 Guys seem to be In N' Out loyalists and I totally get turning your back on a place that serves up a Double Double like no other. However, to keep things completely independent and for the record I do endure cravings for In N' Out, I will base this as just a visit to a burger joint and my impressions. I have enjoyed 5 guys on both the East Coast and (FINALLY) here in 1000 Oaks!! Well, it was indeed a delicious tasting burger and (as many pointed out) there are enough toppings to have several combinations for a burger that's just yours....personally, I love jalapenos on my burger, and wish more burger joints could grill and put them on these meat sensations. I'm so-so with the taste of the fries and a not going to be a frequent flyer because of the price. But, believe me, I would definitely recommend to my hamburger loyalists so that they could taste this delicious treat.

This is my first review ever. I went here for Lunch around 11:20am this morning. The place was already full of customers and about 10 in line. My freinds have all told be about how great this place is but I find it hard to believe a burger can be that good. So here is how my visit went. I walked in and was greated right away. Not with a phoney greeting but a real one. As I waited in line the first thing I noticed was all the potato bags and peanut boxes around. When I got up to the counter I noticed the employees were so freakin cheerfull and talking it was almost scary. The cashier was attentive and even though the phone was ringing in her ear she never stopped for a second and only focused on me. She took my order walking me through the process of ordering a burger that is not pre decided for me. I ordered mine "all the way" and some cajon fries and a coke. The cashier even told me her name. I was amazed that it took less then 3 minuted to recieve my food and the place was packed by then with people and I mean packed with about 60 people. Not only was it fast it was the juciest burger I have ever had and the cajun fries are addicting and freaking out of this world. I would have never even tried the cajun fries but the manager who said his name was Scott told me if I did not love the cajun fries he would replace them with regular freis and give me my money back. Thats crazy I could have scored free fries and my money back but I could not they were just to freakin tasty. Anyway the lady in the dining room offered to refill my drink and got me some peanuts. This place has great fast service. Lunch is out of this world. Todays visit got me for life

Worst fries ever! So being a bit of a Finance guy, I happened to discover this restaurant through a finance magazine I read. It was included in an article that explained how the company started and so on and so forth. I thought to myself, "COOL" where can I find one, I jumped on google and soon found this location was opening up. So I went to their "Grand Opening" and just like the rating bar says, "Meh. I've experienced better." It was way over-hyped. Eating out, I have always considered to be a luxury and to prop out $12 for a nasty burger and salty tasting fries? No thanks! The burger? 2/5. NO Flavor! The fries? NO BUENO! tasted like corn and not fries. Super salty and not in the great McDonald's way..more in the your friend just salted the chips and salsa too much way. Yuck!

In-and-out won't know what a burger is about until they have Five Guys. Don't let the name fool you with dirty thoughts because all they know is how to make a damn good burger. Sure people say It is a little pricey but what do you expect for as many free toppings as u want and some of the best cajun fries LA has ever tasted. They have a simple menu. Burger with one patty or two and if you want cheese or bacon. Once that difficult decision is made u can add whatever toppings you want and man do they have a lot of toppings. My personal combo is a bacon cheeseburger with A1 sause, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and jalapenos. Oh and extra A1 sause. Their burgers are flavorful and juicy and just thinking about it makes me want to go right now! Their cajun fries are in a league of there own if you are gonna compare them to In-and-Outs bland animal style fries. If you want thousand island and onions on your fries i'm sure Five Guys can give you a side of those. Some like one or the other and for me Five Guys wins overall. Sure it costs a little more and is probably not as healthy, but I would rather pay that extra bang for my buck.

Great burgers that taste homemade. It's not In-N-Out but then if you wanted In-N-Out you would go there instead, right? Don't over think this place. It's a good burger joint that serves above average burgers, simple as that. It's a nice break from the same ol' burger joints just to bad they don't have one on the west side of Ventura County.

I won't repeat some of the things previous reviewers have mentioned except in passing... Pros: - 15 free topping options - Reasonable prices - Tasty Cons: - Slow as a sit-down place when crowded - Noisy - Cramped quarters I had a "Little Cheeseburger" (one patty; American cheese), plus lettuce (one piece of iceburg that covered about half the bun), tomato (two slices), onion (chopped), ketchup, mustard, mayo, and it was very good. The patty seemed like it would be prone to crumbling, but all the "stuff" and the soft bun held it together. For a basic burger, I'd still do In-N-Out (faster, cheaper, basically the same flavor), but if I liked the topping selections (mushrooms, grilled onions, steak sauces, etc.), I'd choose Five Guys. They also do hot dogs and some vegetarian options (can't remember if it was a sandwich or a burger), plus grilled cheese, which I'm sure is good.

A few weeks ago, I had a few of my friends ask me if I had tried "Five Guys" out. Not knowing what the hell they were talking about, as I'd never heard of the place in my life, thought it was some kind of sick joke. They'd obviously go on to explain that it's like the east coast version of In and Out. Also that east coasters, swear by it, like most of us Californians swear by our In N Out. Myself, like any other respectable California native, would stick up for our hometown hero. But being the unbiased reviewer that I am, I would definitely have to check the place out. Luckily, the Thousand Oaks location opened up not too long ago...making it somewhat convenient for me to skip on over and see what the fuss was about. Upon entering, I notice that the interior pretty much looks like a rip of In N Out; with a white and red color scheme. I don't mind, as it lends itself to that old school diner feel. I step up order a bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions, lettuce, BBQ sauce, an order of fries and a drink. I like the fact that you can add or subtract anything from the burger, free of charge. What I don't like, is that this "meal" just cost me just under thirteen dollars. I guess they don't believe in trays for when you want to sit down and eat in. All the food is served up in a brown paper bag. Burger is wrapped in foil rather than any fancy wrapping with their name all over it. Fries come in a cup, and I notice that they're looking very...brown and soggy. The burger itself looked pretty messy, but that's the way I like it. It wasn't meant to be looked at, it was meant to be eaten; and that I did. Wow, this burger was good. I hated to admit it, but bite after bite, I had decided that I liked it. There was personality about it; like someone had a BBQ and made some damned good burgers. The bun was soft, but not soggy. The bacon, crisp but not burnt. The two patties of beef were cooked perfectly. The cheese, melted to just the right point of ooziness. The fries though? Not a fan. They're okay, and far from the worst fries I've had. I still prefer In N Out's fries to these ones. Granted, it seemed like the helping of fries they give you is larger. I got the regular order of fries and I still didn't finish it. I never have a problem finishing a double double with fries. EDIT: I guess I had the normal fries...next time I'll try out the cajun fries! Burger for burger, Five Guys wins this battle for me, by a small margin. The customization is a key player here. Obviously, your mileage may vary; this burger battle is subjective to what you like. You still can't deny though, that Five Guys serves up a great burger. Albeit, a much more expensive burger.

I feel bad because people keep comparing this place to In 'n Out. I appreciate their ordering system, which allows you to create your own burger. I like the various sauces they have. Never have I been given the option of having A 1 sauce on my burger at a fast food joint. Burger is all right. Hot dog is okay, but I did not like the cheese on it. It kind of resembled the consistency of Kraft cheese. The free peanuts are cool. But.. ...In 'n Out is better. :P

  • Patrick N.

I don't think the burgers are anything special here. They are juicy and the selection of toppings is pretty good. But it's pretty expensive for what it is, and I can get a better burger elsewhere. Their fries, however, are pretty good. Maybe I'll just come by for the fries next time...

burger and fries and drink in a fast food environment for $12. I was expecting more after reading about how this burger topped In-and-Out burger. If the burgers are the same price, then I would give the edge to 5 Guys. The fries (I got the cajun) are cooked in peanut oil. (Bring your epi-pen and cellphone handy to call 911 if you have peanut food allergies) Nothing great about the fries. For $12, I might as well go to a restaurant like Island's or Bar Grill restaurant that serves hamburger and get serviced by a hot waitress. If you get the burger, skip the fries, and bring your own drink, then I would give this place a 4 star. Yeah, I'm frugal bastard. The place can be dirty during peak hours. The workers have this "Disney" friendly attitude, i.e. management told them to be nice. I suppose that's a good thing.

Five Guys seems to have won more accolades than any other burger around. The walls are covered with quotes of praise, awards and magazine articles. GQ proclaimed it "The Best $5 Burger a Man Can Eat." I definitely thought I'd get a good 100% beef burger. You can customize it with 15 free toppings which is a very nice touch. Burgers are cooked to order in an open kitchen. If you want a burger, they only have beef ones. Besides burgers, they have hot dogs, sandwiches, and French fries. The Cajun style fries sounded interesting. * Little cheeseburger ($4.19): Little means one patty (the regular burgers come with two patties). The toasted sesame bun is very sweet and soft. I didn't like the squishy too sweet bun. The thin patty didn't taste particularly good (wasn't juicy or flavorful). Toppings fell out all over the place. The thin slice of American cheese wasn't melted. I added too many toppings: jalapenos, hot sauce that wasn't hot, pickles, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, etc. Overall it was a drippy, wet mess that didn't taste good and wasn't that cheap. Disappointing. The atmosphere is casual Americana, somewhat evoking the spirit of a 50's diner. The theme colors are white and red. They have boxes of peanuts (free peanuts) and sacks of potatoes in the dining area. The soda machine is in the dining room, so you can help yourself to free refills.

I don't understand how people can compare this place to In-n-Out, the only similarity they share is that they both serve burgers and have read and white interior. A better comparison would be to Fudruckers, or The Counter. You go in there, you get a generic burger and you pick what you want on it. In this respect I find Five Guys to be superior to both places. The quality of food is not as high as The Counter, but the price is a lot more palatable, and Five Guys, in my humble opinion, beats Fudruckers in every way possible. The only advice I have for people who go to this place is that a "small" fries is big enough for 3 people, and the fries are spicy, kind of cajun style. They also tend to cook them so the potato is stil a bit raw on the inside, so they aren't fluffy and crispy like McDonald's fries or something. It can get a bit loud in there too, so maybe sit outside if its a nice day.

Since everyone compares this to In N Out, I'll go ahead and start by saying that I think In N Out has nasty burgers and good fries and milkshakes. Five Guys has great burgers, fries that I'm not super keen on, and no milkshakes. In a perfect world, they'd be next door to each other and I'd get my burger from Five Guys, and my fries and drink from In N Out. But they aren't. Four stars for being a "go-to" place for burgers. The fifth star is missing because of a lack of milkshakes and because I wish the fries were a bit nicer.

3 Stars Heard about them and read about them, but never had a chance to try out Five Guys. I heard they were the number one contender to the fast food burger crown out here on the left coast, that crown owned by In n Out. Their main menu consists of hamburgers and "little" hamburgers. The hamburgers have two four ounce patties and the "little" hamburgers have just one. The key difference is at Five Guys is they have BACON! That is a great option that In n Out doesn't offer. There are also burger topping options and they are all free. So if you're feeling simple, you can have just ketchup. Or you can be creative and get grilled mushrooms, bbq sauce and jalapenos. I went with the classic combination of lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and mayo. All of that on a "little" bacon cheeseburger. The fries are fresh and fried in peanut oil, salted or cajun style. I went with salted and a side of cajun seasoning. I like the fries much better than In n Out, thicker and fluffy on the inside. I also liked them salted versus cajun. The burger was good, but not better then In n Out, something about the flavors of the beef from In n Out just make it better. To compare apples to apples, next time I'll need to get my burger without bacon. The Five Guys beef lacked flavor and the cheese was pretty bland. The bun was soft with sesame seeds and nicely toasted. The grilled onions were nothing like In n Out, there was no carmelization. As Jelp mentioned in his review, it is a bit noisy. But I didn't find it to be that big of a deal. The topping options are nice and the prices are comparable, but the burgers just aren't as good as In n Out, IMO. Looking forward to another visit to try out other combinations.

The burgers here are good and the fries are usually great. I don't know why everyone has to compare this place with In N Out. They are so different in several ways. I agree with most people that The Habit is better. I think the burgers here are more like a fancier version of a Wendy's burger. I will continue coming here occasionally, but I would never say that the burgers here would make my top 10 list.

Great burgers, and I love their cajun fries. The free peanuts are a nice touch too. If I had to choose something to complain about is that they don't have milkshakes. How can you serve burgers and fries with no shakes?

  • Matt M.

Five guys is kind of like In-N-Out, but nicer. Their burgers are bigger, fresher (I know, doesn't seem possible), and just taste better. Their fries are also cut fresh and the dining area has bags of potatoes strewn about proving this fact. I haven't found a 'hidden' menu like they have at INO, but that's likely because they allow you to customize your burger with tons of options on the menu. What they do offer is burgers and hot dogs with a load of available toppings. Two things worth noting is that their normal burgers have two patties while their 'small' burgers just have one. Also, a small fry is HUGE. They basically pile them into the bottom of the bag; it's easily enough for two to eat. I haven't seen a large fry yet, but I would imagine it'd come in it's own bag. Service doesn't appear to be as fast as INO, but the line is just as long. Luckily they have free peanuts you can snack on while you wait. I still prefer Habit Burger which is right down the street from this location, but for a change, it's still good. One word of caution, there is pretty limited parking so you may have to park at El Torino and walk.

Love coming here for my burger fix me up! Trust me when I say I hated eating hamburgers, but once I had some of the cajun fries and a custom cheese burger I have converted back to liking hamburgers. I only come here for a cheese burger and I always order a side of Cajun fries and a cup of the wonderful sweet tea. Best hamburger joint I have been too. The missing star is due to the price. So I only come when I really really want a cheese burger and cajun fries because it is quite pricey.

Twelve bucks for a cheeseburger, fries and a Coke? Then to have to eat it in a noisy, crowded, school cafeteria - type atmosphere ? Where's the value ? You can do better for less at I&O and the Habit.

Great burger! I reserve the the impulse to give it 5-stars because I still am on a quest to find that "5-star" burger. I still believe it's out there... Somewhere...

It must take more than Five Guys to make a good burger because this place just doesn't cut it. It's overpriced and there's nothing special about it. It's not bad, it's not great, it's just there. #1. In-N-Out #2. The Habit #3. Father's Office ...skip down to... #15 Wendy's #16 Five Guys Burgers

  • Tanya D.

BETTER THAN IN N OUT! There I said it. My introduction to Five Guys was "It's pretty much the same quality/ level as In n Out, but the fries are much better." Of course the fries are better, In n Out makes the weakest, blandest fries. That being said, "better than In n Out' isn't saying much because it's still just a fast food burger. The vibe rocks - peanuts everywhere tends to make me happy for some reason. The menu owns In n Out's because there are way more options (hey guys, hamburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches aren't the only thing out there) for example, I got grilled mushrooms on my burger at a fast food joint and that is awesome. All in all, it's a decent and highly customizable fast food burger. However, less than 30 minutes after eating it, my tummy was making noise. And, the other person I at with, who is more of a fast food and red meat eater than myself, was also pretty K.O. after eating this burger. A mini bacon burger with veggies and side of fries + caffeine really killed me. I'll probably think twice about coming back for another Five Guys burger.

    (3)
  • Tammy Q.

No bias reviews here, five guys make a good burger. The meat is juicy and thick but the bun was pretty bleh. The first thing I noticed was the free peanuts, random or what? Maybe not but it did make the place a little messy with shells everywhere and face it its a death trap if you have a peanut allergy! My sister's reason for liking this place over other burger joints was because you had the option of adding mushrooms. Really, that's the only plus? Not good enough for me especially for a burger at that price.

Overrated. With all the hype from the media, we decided to go there today and see how it compared to In N Out, etc. Sadly, we (3 of us) were disappointed. First the hamburgers are sooo expensive. Just for a regular cheeseburger (2 beef patties combined into one), it's over 6 bucks. Then if you want fries and a drink, the prices are ridiculous. You'd think they'd have a combo menu or something. We ordered the cajun fries and the regular fries and they were also just ok. The flavors were ok. Not bad, not great. One other strange thing is that this place has boxes of peanuts placed everywhere so you can eat them while you're waiting in line (and the line was really long today). Strange that they placed a lot of the peanuts on the trashcans. Anyway, people are slobs there; they just throw the peanut shells on the floor and the poor employees are coming by every few minutes to clean it up. I thought at first that the peanut shells were apart of the decor like those BBQ joints that put hay on the floor.

Burgers, so many so little time. Primitive yet a staple, plain yet can be done in so many ways. 5 Guys by no means is a gourmet burger, but i is the NEW STANDARD in a golden slot that In-N-Out has lazily held for many years. Price, Freshness, Quantity, and options are what makes this joint just poke out ahead of the pack. The ingredients taste like those we can muster up for our back yard grill, but at $6 out the door this place is saving me money =D BONUS: they will build the burger with as many patties as you like( I routinely get 3).

    (4)
  • Jeffrey A.

The first time I heard about this place was as a comparison to In-n-Out. I hear this place was BETTER, I asked around and I got a lot of mix reviews. I had to come and experience it myself. This place is pricey considering the taste/quality of food. The bread needs improvement, horrible/tasteless fries, the meat on the other hand was of high quality and it was tasty unfortunately the patties did little for the burger as a whole. And what's with whole peanuts? There were peanuts reminisces all over the place which make it look dirty. Not planning on going back. I gave this place a 2 star ONLY because of the meat patties. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME or MONEY!!!!!!!

    (2)
  • Tyler H.

I'm not really sure why this place is so popular. I can't stand the self-decorum on the walls or the needlessly crusty surrounds. The employees seem to be brainwashed by upper management. The burger is mediocre, but completely overpriced. They have terrible iced tea. You're far better off ordering (2) double doubles from In-n-out Burger instead for the price of one of the monstrosities they serve here. The "free" toppings are basically normal fixin's. Really not worth the high base price.

  • Harn C.

Oh, this place is getting reamed. I say 3.5 stars... just don't get your hopes so high up and you'll be fine. The Place- Free peanuts = messy floors. Negative points for ambiance.. as many Yelpers said, it looks and feels like a school cafeteria. A dirty, retro school cafeteria,. Complete with obnoxious posters all over the walls. The Service- Standard counter fast food stuff. The Food- Ok, it looks like everyone's comparing this place to Red Robin or In-n-out. Thoughts: let's say Red Robins is the meal equivalent of a nice date. You sit down, eat some delicious loaded fancy burgers, and get that restaurant experience. You get what you pay for, come out satisfied. Pretty well-rounded event, yeah? Then In-n-out is the meal equivalent of a good night kiss: fresh, light, easy and pretty good. More or less guilt-free, but also cheap and quick. Then Five Guys, I say, is the meal equivalent of a one night stand. It's messy. It's gonna cost you more than you wanna admit, but it's still pretty delicious. The burgers (if you don't load your burger with all the free toppings then you really aren't getting your money's worth) are generously topped, thick and juicy and DEFINITELY not healthy. The fries aren't mind-blowing (insert innuendo here) but they're still lots better than fast food fries! I feel like I'll wake up in the morning regretting what I did, and I know I probably shouldn't do this often... but yeah, I'd do it again. (Still talking about burgers, here) Five Guys, I'm not gonna call you tomorrow- but thanks, I had a good time.

  • Susie S.

I dont know why this place has low reviews. It is a good burger. No 5 star burger, but a good eat. You can't compare 5 guys to anything else. 5guys tastes like a 5guys burger. Stop trying to compare it to in-n-out... If I could compare it to anything it would be like the burgures Ive had at friends bbq's. frys were good, service was fast. It's cool that they tell you where the potatoes come from. Overall a good experience

First I want to comment that, trying to compare Five Guys' food with In N Out's is futile. Just because both serve burgers doesn't make their products comparable. It's like trying to compare Sizzler with Mastro's. They're not in the same league. Nor are they trying to attract the same market. Each has its unique, and perhaps important, role. But I wouldn't consider them competitors. I'm not convinced that, even if they were comparable, I'd choose In N Out on a regular basis for a pleasant meal. It attracts highschool and college kids who want a cheap meal and who sit there goofing on each other, doing annoying things like tearing up napkins, along with disgusting things like burping and farting. To give them stink-eye only eggs them on, prompting them blatantly stare at you and burp even more all the while laughing hilariously. That element of society is not present (for the most part) at Five Guys. I'm happy to pay a little more for a pleasant meal. Five Guys has what I'll call a "loose" burger. The patty hangs together but very loosely. I don't know where other Yelpers came up with the word "regular" to describe a size or style burger at Five Guys. There is not and never has been a "regular" burger. Yelpers referring to anything "regular" probably have not actually been to this restaurant... and if they did, they ought to lose credibility for inaccurate reporting. You can order a "little" burger (one patty), or a "big" burger (two patties). No "regular". The kids who take your order are nice and helpful. There is a wide array of choices of items that you can add to your burger for no extra charge. I like the mushrooms, lettuce, and onions. When the burger arrives, it is in a soft, yeasty bun... obviously freshly made; similar to Subway rolls. Doesn't it drive you crazy to go into a Subway and wait a tortuous several minutes for your sammy while smelling that luscious yeastiness? It's similar here. When your order is ready, it's easy to figure out who gets what. The burgers are numbered on the outside and the number matches to each burger order on the receipt, which is attached to the paper bag with your stuff in it. I like it that we don't need to examine the food before finding out who it belongs to. The burger patties are lightly seasoned, so you're going to get most of your flavor out of the extra items you choose with your burger. If you order bacon, you'll be pleased that it's crisp, thick, and smokey. To sum it up, the burger's flavor is as good as you order it. The texture is very good, the beef quality is high, and the doneness is thorough without being over-cooked. Five Guys fries are really good. They're long and thick, fried at a proper temperature so they don't absorb oil, and are properly salted / seasoned. And, I'm sorry but In N Out's fries are only good when hot. Once cold they're nasty, skinny, shriveled-up lard sticks. And why would somebody dream of complaining that 5 Guys gives TOO MUCH fries? Feh! Anyway, the Cajun fries are good and for two people, there are PLENTY in the small order. The fountain drinks are fine. I'd love it if they were to have a passion fruit / tropical tea. But maybe that's just wishful thinking. You can eat roasted peanuts and sip your beverage to tide you over til your order is ready. The indoor eating area is loud and chaotic. I much prefer to eat out on the patio. The music is so loud that the people calling out order numbers can barely be heard. I can live without the self-promoting article reprints and quotes all over the walls. This type of thing doesn't add to customer comfort. It smacks of "look at us, we rock!" Give me a break. Five Guys is just a hamburger joint, albeit a good one.

OMG...So over-rated! I would give negative stars if I could. How can this place possibly be compared to In N Out? Let's start with ordering...Obnoxious! The menu is confusing and you start with a plain burger and add toppings, which, I think is kind of a PITA. The restaurant feels dirty and cramped. This is all forgivable but then the food comes and it is sooooo disappointing. The burgers are soggy and tasteless! And cold! The fries were okay but nothing special and the much-hyped cajun topping was basically seasoned salt. Now if this terrible meal cost $5, I would probably not be writing this review. However, it was approx. $12 per person and left me pissed that I wasted my time and money and wishing I had gone to In N Out for a delicious, hot, cheese-melted, bun-toasted Double-Double for $3.

There are things you shouldn't do to a burger. I think 5 guys in TO has committed every burger sin possible. When I bit into my soggy burger that tasted dry and flavorless, I could only picture Hubert Keller saying "you're doing it all wrong" youtube.com/watch?v=seLg… Granted this isn't umami burger or any fancy schmancy burger joint, but for spending 12 bucks on burger and fries, I'd better get something better than Carl's Jr. Sure go ahead and compare it to In and Out, but why even do that? Honestly you're better off driving down the street and getting some Jack in the box. At least Jack's patties don't taste dry and flavorless. Sorry 5 guys, but you're doing it all wrong.

Meh is right! I had never heard of this place until my boyfriend (who worked at in n out) told me that he heard a rumor that this place was better. I laughed. Better than in n out? Please. I don't eat red meat, which is why I absolutely adore in n out and their grilled cheese. But when I used to eat red meat, of course I'd get a cheeseburger there. So I know what their patties taste like. My boyfriend wanted to see for himself what all the fuss was about so he begged me to come with him. I haven't eaten red meat in 3 years, so he said c'mon. One burger won't do you any harm. I said why not. We got our burgers and... nothing special. At all. My moms a great cook, not bashing her in any way, but these burgers tasted like the ones she makes at home. LOL. I wouldn't make my way back here. No thank you.

They make a great burger, a little greasy, but great non the less. The food comes quick and they have always gotten my order correct. The only mark down is because the prices seem pretty high for what you get.

Indeed when I am away from Pasadena this is the only acceptable substitute for Lucky Boy. This Cheeseburger and the one I had in Paris at Bistro St. Dominique's are the the only ones that can ever remind me of my first bite. Enjoy the peanuts and the fries too, but come back for the burger.

Let me tell you exactly what you get when you go to Five Guys Burgers & Fries: When you walk in there are a few things that will be immediately apparent. First, you will be notice the atmosphere. It's a cafeteria style seating arrangement that can get incredibly chaotic during the lunch rush. Second, your eyes will invariably be drawn to all of the articles, quotes, and clippings of Five Guys telling you how amazing they are. For me, that's a red flag. If the restaurant's only discernable artistic "theme" consists entirely of self-generated hype, it's almost guaranteed not to live up to expectations. Let me direct your attention to the menu. If you are ordering a burger, don't be mislead. Five Guys has two sections for burgers: Their regular burgers and their "little" burgers. Just so we are clear, the little burgers are regular size hamburgers and the regular size burgers are actually double the meat. I find that misleading and a bit annoying. When your food arrives you will notice that Five Guys wastes absolutely no effort on presentation. Everything is unceremoniously tossed together in a greasy brown paper bag. It doesn't matter if you order "for here" or "to go", you still get the paper bag treatment. Open it up and you will notice that your fries are shoved into a paper drink cup. They are brownish and soggy. No crisp golden fries here. Your burger will be wrapped in tinfoil. Unwrap it and it looks as if it was seriously man-handled. It will be squished and mashed, and you can easily make out several finger-sized dents in the bun. The cheese will not be melted, and everything will look as if it was thrown together in the laziest, sloppiest manner possible. So, Five Guys doesn't concern themselves with atmosphere or presentation, those things clearly don't matter as much as how the food tastes, so dig in. The flavors are okay, but not amazing. This is easily a meal you could make at home. There is simply nothing special or noteworthy about it. It's okay, but nothing special. I guess if I was to sum up this review in a sentence that would be it. Five Guys: it's okay, but nothing special. So, what did it cost? You would expect that the money saved on omitting clean presentation and comfortable atmosphere would allow Five Guys to offer their food fairly inexpensively. Not the case. A "little" burger, small fries, and small drink is going to cost you about ten bucks. So, where do they rate? Five Guys wastes so much effort trying to compare themselves to In-N-Out that they might as well stick a couple of palm trees in their parking lot. Unfortunately, all the things that make In-N-Out great are the same things Five Guys falls short on. If we are using In-N-Out as a baseline for good fast food at great prices, then Five Guys doesn't match up at all. However, if you want an okay burger that's a bit overpriced and slopped together in the laziest manner possible, give them a go.

Tasted just like Burger King... even the fries were not very tasty... it ended up being about $9 for fries and a bacon cheeseburger.

It's good. The fries are excellent. They put to much stuff on the burgers, but you can control that. I notice that there a lot of haters in comparing it to In & Out, but really apples and oranges. The burger is moist and tasty. Cooked well done, which might not make those looking for the perfect burger happy. Bottom line is decent food could do better could do a lot worse.

Well I dont get the 4 or better reviews. This is just a expensive hamburger joint. Yes the burgers have good flavor and are a bit bigger than most but just to pricey. the fries.. ah no! Just soggy partially cooked potatos. You can order online but why would you? Nice to try but thats it at $11.39 for burger reg fries and a reg soda, a little over the top.

I keep hearing that Five Guys makes the best burgers, so I had to come and taste for myself. First thing I notice was it cost $5-$7 for a burger. Then I noticed that you get to customize your burger toppings. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with A1 and grilled onions. I took my first bite and started to think if this is the best burger I ever had. Nope, not the best, but still a pretty good burger.

This is a wonderful burger place! The menu was a bit confusing at first but I had a friend with me who had been before so she explained it to me. She advised me to get the jr. burger with cheese and I ordered fries to go with it. I was amazed at how many fries they gave me. The cup was filled up and there were atleast double the amount at the bottom of the bag. Awesome! The burger itself was a little messy but so delicious. I really like the decor of this place and the addition of the peanuts is really cute. My friend and I both commented to each other about the loud music inside but the food definitely made up for it.

Well after all the hype we finally decided to stop by tonight. This place is the "Emperors New Clothes", those that say its great are sheeple, afraid to let everyone know the Emperor is naked. The prices are outrageous. The French Fries are worse then what you would get with a frozen TV dinner. Soggy, tasteless. They wrote on the chalkboard they came from Idaho- I say send them back. The Hamburger was greasy and tasteless even with many toppings. I guess people who pay that kind of money for mediocre food might be to embarassed to let you know just how bad it is. Ignore the hype, save your money.

My current favorite burger joint. I really appreciate having the calories listed on the menu. Burgers are great and made to order. Fries are tasty and the soda machine with all the choices makes it fun too. Never had to wait too long for our order. Plenty of seating and parking.

Sometimes, I think I dream of reviews and that I actually don't write them, but I thought I had. Oh vey! Anywho, local which is a plus, plently of parking and a great place to go on a summers day out. I really enjoy this place more than I expected. Granted the prices are a bit pricey for a burger, however, the burger to me tastes like a burger from home and in a good way! I feel they have all the fixings I would want for my burger and has a home made taste. The fries are plently to split a small with a friend. The cajun fries have great flavor, that bit of kick. There is plently of seating and the staff is friendly for the mere seconds I interact with them. I mean something about a good, simple burger gets to me. Haven't tried gthe hot dogs yet, something to be achieved in the near future!

I had my first Five Guys experience in Florida, and was excited when they opened near my hometown. And it hasn't changed -- great food! My only question is why do they play the music so loud that the cashier can hardly hear you, and when they call my number I can't hear it either.

The burgers are only cooked well done so there are no other choices. Medium well works but they won't do that. I personally feel like this location was not managed efficiently at the time I went here last Saturday. You can see the food being cooked and it seemed like everyone was in slow motion. In fact the fry cook kept waiting to put on burgers because the rest of the crew were sloooowwww.The place was not that busy and it took over 20 minutes from the time at the register to receiving my one burger. The burger did taste fine and had the right toppings so that says something. Good luck as they would be busier if they pick up the pace and worked more on training.

I have 1 picky boy so he don't want pickle ,onion ,mustard and mushroom in their burgers. So when my hubby order it and the counter person who is a girl couldn't understand at all. She said she can not help us order the food because she has hard time to understand what we order. Such a joke tonight? She has a bad night or what.? We only need 3 burgers and 1 fries. And my hubby is white American. We never have a problem when we go to smash burger and habit burger grill.

This place has the best customer service ever. Never gotten an order wrong, free peanuts, such a large amount of the best fries ever that it's very possible they're trying to make you obese, and the burgers put in n out to shame. Best burger, best fries, and best service anywhere in the area.

I don't normally eat burgers, but when I do Five Guys is at the top of my list. Why is that you may ask? Well, Five Guys burgers are juicy, meaty, flavorful patties on a delicious soft sesame seed bun. What also makes them special is you can add unlimited toppings for free, you can choose one or two patties and finally, you can also choose hot dogs and grilled cheese (also which can be topped with as many toppings as you can handle). What makes Five Guys the absolute best though are the Cajun Fries. The Cajun fries are spicy, hand-cut and pure greasy heaven. They are truly the perfect complement to a delicious burger (or grilled cheese or hot dog). Five Guys in Thousand Oaks has friendly staff, fairly quick service and two nice patios to enjoy your burger and cajun fries. My adventure to this five guys included a single cheeseburger with A1, mustard, tomatoes, mushrooms and onions. It was messy, it was delicious and it was cheesy. The cajun fries were perfectly fried and heavily spiced and survived the rest of the afternoon to be eaten as a snack. Burger Breakdown: The Food: Hmmm, oh so deliciously tasty, fatty, greasy and delicious The Value: $8 and change for the burger and fries. Pricey? A touch, but a small fry is enough to feed a small family for the day. The Experience: Just the way Five Guys should be! Fast, friendly and playing old school music. Don't forget about the bulk boxes of peanuts! A little snack while you wait, or a nice little touch to go with your meal. Would I return?: I've gone to Five Guys in Virginia and I've gone in California, yes I will return! 5 stars?: Gotta represent my East Coast pride and really it's a delicious experience, give them a try and be open-minded in trying this burger place.

Most people probably think having five guys inside of them is pretty amazing... For me it was mediocre. The burgers are good, the fries are okay. Good and okay doesn't warrant me to eat their all the time. Im always looking for great burgers and amazing fries. Smash burger tops this place in my opinion. And even In-n-Out is classically tastier! It's an opinion... I know... But it's mine. So in conclusion, I'm not dying to have five guys inside of me tonight lol. It's just funny to say

Came here for the first time last week with a couple friends. I don't eat burgers so I got a Cheese Veggie Sandwich (only came here cause my friends wanted it). Anyways, the guy who rang me up was really friendly...he helped me a lot since I didn't know how to order anything. My sandwich was pretty decent; not the best and definitely a little pricey. The fries were a little bland for my taste. TBH, just by looking at my friends' burgers, I would think In-N-Out is a lot better (plus, it's way cheaper!). Overall, decent place for a quick bite.

I was skeptical. I wasn't all that impressed on my first visit, but on my second and third visits, it clicked. These burgers are excellent. I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of the fries, but I won't knock them down for that. For me, it's all about the burger, and this one is epic.

What do you mean you don't eat meat?! Okay...I'll have a Five Guys Burger with Bacon, Onions, and Jalapenos! I seriously rarely eat red meat unless it's Bulgogi or an occasional carne asada street taco but it's extremely rare you see me biting into a burger. I eat mostly vegetarian or seafood...and cook vegan at home but when I'm outside of my house, all bets are off. I'll eat whatever I feel like but try to pace myself so that the majority of my meals are vegetarian. A few months back some friends at work invited me to Five Guys for lunch. I thought..."what am I going to eat?" Then I decided I'll try a burger but ask that it's cooked well done. I know most people like their beef not cooked as much but it's the way I like it. We walked in and there were some choices I had to make. I've been known to go to a place like IN-N-Out with a small menu that never changes and take some time to decide what I want...always ending up ordering the same thing. In this case, I had never been there before. As I got closer to the counter, I knew I had to make some decisions...okay...um...if I'm going to eat meat...I might as well go big and get BACON! This is what makes their burger in my opinion...their bacon is perfectly crispy with the right portion. I also ordered the Cajun Fries. It's a lot of fries so you can share them if you go with someone else. In fact, that's what we did...we shared the fries. One bite of the burger and two bites of the fries...perfect! I'm suddenly a burger fan...even when I used to eat meat more often, I rarely went for the burger. Later, I found myself in the Dulles Airport eating a Five Guys Burger with Bacon...and some Cajun Fries! Ahhh-yeahhh! If you're not much of a burger fan but peer pressure is weighing on you...go ahead and try a Five Guys Burger...trust me...it's safe. Cheers!

The burger was delicious and there are so many toppings you can put on them, so I really liked the variety. It was juicy and just hit the right spot. The seasoning on the fries make them taste really good. If I had to choose though, I would much rather go to In-n-out. Even though the fries are much better at Five Guys, I much prefer the taste of In-n-out burgers. Also, I feel like I get much more value for my money at In-n-out because their burgers are cheaper and taste better.

I like the fact that you can order any topping on your burger for the same price! They have plenty of additional topping choices. Their french fries are made fresh with peanut oil; they even tell you what farm the potatoes are from! There are peanuts that you can shell and eat right there. The place is always packed but they seem to keep the pace in getting your order out quickly.

We stopped in on Weds. July 9th at about 2 p.m. It was the worst hamburger we have ever received from this "Five Guys". The meat was dry, I asked for mustard top and bottom of bun, (I seen a light streak of mustard) my cheese wasn't even melted and the bacon was burned, Yes, burned. I can't say much for the blonde girl with the hateful attitude that cooked our food. Her attitude certainly showed in her hamburgers. We always stopped at this Five Guys when we past Thousand Oaks. We;ve always had good burgers with friendly staff until this time. Sad, truly a sad visit all the way around.

A-Ok just in case you don't remember what three stars mean. In my opinion that means to me that I have no MAJOR complaints. Maybe a few gripes but... Its good and its not bad. But its not.. amazing. Food's Standard although I do like the Fries. I don't like the buns though since they are super dense and eggy. I feel like I'm eating more bread than meat. The service is debatable-- touch and go. Depends on who you get I suppose. The cool thing is that they take pride in letting you know where their food comes from. And the serving of fries is ridiculously huge. Can't complain since I lurve fries. And seriously Ya'll comparing them to In-n-Out? They both make burgers but they're not even the least bit similar. I'd more compare them to The Habit. Price wise, In-n-Out has them Pacquiao'd. Cant even come close. Worth a try though. Worth more than one visit too.

Ok, I've eaten here 3 times. The first time is when it first opened, it was really good. Service was great, good came out at a great time and the food was great. I love the peanuts while you wait too! The 2nd time, the food took forever to come out, and the food was at a lesser quality then the 1st time I ate there. I wanted to give it another shot though, because of the first time I went. Then, I ate there about a month ago, and had the worst experience ever. We took our kids and we ordered, 15 minutes later I started to wonder why it was taking so long. Finally they call our number only to tell us that there stove went down and they barely started cooking our food. I said ok, I mean stuff happens. 15 minutes later they call our number. We waited 30 minutes for our food! 30 minutes!!! And all they said was, I'm sorry for the wait. Really??? Great costumer service. How about here is a 10 dollar gift card, we are so sorry about the wait, we appreciate your business and would love for you to come back and have a better experience. That's just me... Anyways, we ate and left. Also, the freestyle coke machine was out of coke on both machines. I told a worker and he replied, "I know," and by the time we left, it was still empty. All in all, I hate giving bad reviews, And I'll give 2 stars for the food quality, but I'm big on costumer experience, and it was a very bad experience that cost me 35 bucks. No bueno... Sadly I Won't go back. Smash burger is right down the road and the service is great.

Fast service, clean tables, thousands of possible soda flavors, hot fresh fries, delicious peanuts, kosher dogs with sautéed onions and mushrooms (or whatever you prefer)...great place for lunch. Yes, it cost $20 for two to eat, but they are not stingy with portion size and we left quite full. Also, the cashier and cook we interacted with we're cheerful and polite. That's worth at least 4 stars to me!

I can remember years ago, while I was in the military, being sent to Korea for a month for military exercises. I remember being housed in an Army camp (I was in the Air Force), and the food was pretty depressing when I first got there. Pretty soon, we were stuck with MREs ("Meals, Ready-To-Eat"), and the memory of the Army mess hall food started looking pretty darn good. When they Army got the mess hall set up and churning out swill again, I swore that they were cooking the finest haute cuisine that could be found this side of Paris. When I finally got back home to my Air Force base, there food there had always been excellent - and it was then that I realized how much you miss good food when it's taken away. I came to 5 Guys because it was so highly reviewed by the LA Times. It was "okay". Not "Daglas" great or even "In-N-Out" great, and certainly not "LA Times Best Burger" great - but just "okay". The real plus for 5 Guys is that there is incredible variety, and it's certainly less expensive than the Counter...but in reality, The Counter has a variety that's better. I had a single cheeseburger cooked medium, with Ortega chili strips, grilled onions, tomato and an order of French fries. The cheeseburger required condiments: catchup, mustard and mayo to change the taste to something more tasty, otherwise it had the distinct flavor of a weathered tarpaulin. The fries, while fresh, were certainly NOT In-N-Out, Daglas or The Counter quality. They, too were quite greasy and required copious amounts of ketchup in order to get cut the grease. Finally, the service was quite slow. Truthfully, I might eat there again - if In-N-Out, Daglas or The Counter were not options. I don't know where people got the idea the 5 Guys rated better than In-N-Out; perhaps the people that rated 5 Guys so highly also frequent McDonalds or Burger King so much that anything that resembles a fresh, well made burger will automatically top their list. Better choice: There is an In-N-Out not that far away - or if you're headed to the San Fernando Valley, try Daglas.

The hamburgers and fries taste like what I can make at home. With more grease. I get it, Obama ate at one and now it's popular. Typical of sheep to do so, very understandable. The atmosphere? Open your eyes, there is no atmosphere. Then again, why would you in that place? The walls are plastered with praises from media outlets from the opposite end of this great nation. I'm highly dubious of those praises. The burger I ordered was plump and juicy and greasy. I'm not a fan of greasy juice squirting out if a burger when biting it. The fries were just plain oily and salty. Ever cooked up fries with too much oil? That's what the fries from this gyp joint are like. In-N-Out? Are you kidding me? You people don't get out much, do you? Apples and oranges, apples and oranges. Wait a minute... this place is in T.O., that is understandable and sad. Three wise monkeysville.
